i've read many people say to use will power or increase self-motivation to fight nofap.

i dont think with will power we can directly fight nofap. with will power we can learn tools to fight nofap.

like last night came the urge to watch porn. instead i read a book. had i depended solely on will power n sat there with eyes close trying to deal/accept the porn thoughts and let them pass...i doubt it would've helped much.

it's like if i want to make muscles...then will power can be used to make me GO to gym and EXERCISE...also EAT HEALTHY food.

it's like will power is the fuel but we needs weapons around. so when you've relapsed... it's not that the will power is less...maybe in the gym you're working out the incorrect way or you're eating unhealthy food(just an analogy)

I agree. Willpower is useful to a limit but if you dwell on it too long youre gonna eventually convince yourself that its okay to pmo. So its important to have something to do at all times. Any kind of hobby, anything

Yes, will power is like the General, but if he has no forces to marshal...

    1. Realization that I have a problem
    2. Transitional stage, where I start building other areas of life/ strengthening the Will [mobilizing for war so to speak]
    3. Resolve once and for all to quit, and not look back.

oh yeah...just 23 hours remaining. and then it's level 2.

  6. I think you misunderstand the definition of willpower. Choosing to read over fap is, of course, using willpower. I don't know what you think willpower is. Every day you don't fap you are exercising willpower.

Willpower is in fact the ability to decide between two objectives.

    • The objective to have an orgasm is very basic, and therefore, it is always there and very simple to follow.
    • The objective to build a big project and to follow a plan is much more sophisticated, and therefore it is needs a lot of planning and you can easily be distracted.

That's why it is so easy to fap and so difficult to create a big project.

When you want to overcome the addiction, then you first must ask yourself "what do I want to do at all?" -- "What are my goals?"

I advice you to meditate daily and to have a clear vision of your goals in mind.
Make a daily habit out of it, for your whole life.
And every day, finish at least one little piece of your goal.

    How about knowledge and fear?

I know I would be scared straight reading some journals.

will power: i will not masturbate
tool 1: i will distract myself
tool 1.1: i will distract myself with a task that i enjoy
tool 1.2: i will distract myself with a task that is not too difficult, nor too easy

there is a youtube video about will power vs skill power.

I am not so sure whether the 'Will' is a 'faculty' or not, and whether we can refer to an abstract 'Will'.

I do know that when I will to do something I desire something. If we have conflicting desires then we have conflicting wills, or we could say our 'Will' is divided.

If that is the case, then the task has to be one of changing our desires. If I can change myself, so that I can say that I only desire what is good, then there will no longer be a conflict.

Desire, and with it will, seems inextricably intertwined with self.

    Self development anyone?:)

Warning: the ego will fight this kicking and screaming, but if you want it bad enough....
