In the end, VR anything is just a bunch of code and not a real person. A relationship is much more than that. It's actual, real responses from humans, and not a computer running through various responses that fit the bill. There is no relationship to be had with VR porn. If they want emptiness, depression, lack of interest in real life, anxiety, and a skewed view of reality, sex and relationships, then by all means they can have it.

Real sex has many benefits. VR "sex" is just an imitation. Empty. Once you take the headset off, you'll be back in your dull life with nothing to show for it. No one to cuddle. No one to kiss and tell them you love them. No one to order pizza with and watch shows. Just empty rewards for doing absolutely nothing. No effort. You'll be training your brain to seek instant gratification at a much higher rate than the porn of today. The freedom of being single is not a benefit if your brain and body can only react to pixels. You won't want to have sex with real people. I'm sure people thought "Hey I get the benefits of sex with the freedom of being single!" when referring to internet porn. Look where that got us. We know it'll be empty. We know it has nothing to offer us. We know it will take over our lives.

Honestly, I'm not getting a VR headset for any reason, even though I game. I don't support people "plugging up" into a virtual world and becoming dissatisfied with real life. I'd rather be one of the few in 50 years who are still living happily by working on improving the real world instead of escaping into an imaginary one.

haha thanks for saying that, because I was beginning to think that you thought I was implying something different than I was. We're on the same page. Though I probably will get VR at some point, because my husband is super into gaming and he's really excited about it. lol

 

No problem! Not directed at you at all, mainly just ranting. Yes it's really exciting, I agree. Especially the creative stuff, like 3d modeling and the like.

 

First off, I think the news is good (no matter how you look at it), the funny thing about all this is that its one of the rare few things that Americans have an opportunity of doing relatively fast. America is easily one of the most religious developed countries the world over, and pornography (and the ways in which it effects relationships and such) line up perfectly with religious doctrine. The problem is that religion has had a very bad rap for all of its views towards sex in general, so it may be ignored for some time by more "progressive" individuals.

Second, I recall someone suggesting that it could be another war on drugs. Really? Even as far as drugs are concerned, government laws are changing gradually (the legalization of marijuana is the most obvious example) so I doubt you would see the government screw up like that again. Besides, they couldn't penalize people (outside of maybe taxes?) because it would mean 90% of the country facing
jail time, so the idea that its going to go 1984 up in here is just ludicrous.

Finally, the whole VR thing is a valid concern. However, some of the problems (and benefits) are being ignored. Many bring up brainwashing or extreme advertisements, porn is just one of the many risks that VR could cause. It also has some benefits as well, the idea that this world is inherently wonderful and that any time spent outside of it is kind of a slap in the face to anyone who ever wanted a better life. I for one do not appreciate this world as much as others might, humanity is slowly drifting into an existence that is insatiable (singularity), so frankly it may be best to create worlds that are more "natural" in comparison with the world that exists today. VR is decade or two away from being truly immersive anyway, until one can hook the system up to their nervous system it really isn't all that special. Many things will still be done outside of VR for a few more decades (porn already had POV, and many games don't improve whatsoever from VR) so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

 

I am so glad that people of office are recognizing this for what it is. Too long has society been inflicted with this disease and it's time for a CHANGE!

People are not waking up. People are still wanting to blame everyone else for their problems. Porn isn't the problem. It's the people using the porn. Alcoholism is a problem. Let's let everyone know that budweiser can kill you. That should solve the problem. Lol What is happening in this world is a direct reflection of what is happening inside us as individuals.

Faith? government couldn't arrest people for pornography if they wanted to, mixture of first amendment rights and not enough space in jails.

The equivalent would be the government putting people in handcuffs for downloading music or movies, which obviously hasn't happened.

I'm a gamer and no I won't deal with VR whatsoever, because I know better now that this can't be good for me....

But VR will be a flytrap, definitely!

 

Utah is in the midst of passing a Resolution not a Law (it has not been signed by the Governor yet). A resolution is simply a statement of ideas that impacts only upon public policy. There is no law to break. Nobody is going to jail.

Downloading music and movies on the other hand is a violation of Copyright Law. Music and movies are owned by individuals and companies. By unauthorized downloading, you are in fact stealing from the rightful owners. People have been busted for selling counterfeit CDs and DVDs and others have been hit with substantial fines and lawsuits for unauthorized downloads.

 

This was seriously the best news I heard this year! I'm not surprised this is coming out of Utah. Most of my clients are from there and it has the greatest number of drug addicts (meth), porn and sex addicts, as well as sexually abused minors in the US. My only thing against the anti-porn movement in Utah is that the Mormon Church needs to start implementing non-secular ways of treating porn addiction. They religious approach is simply NOT effective.
They do a great job on awareness through Fight The New Drug and bills like this, though.

 

Truth! I'm a religious person myself, though not Mormon, but one of my favorite things about NoFap is that it's secular. You can't try to tell non-religious people that something is harmful to them by using a religious argument, because they're not going to care about that, and it's kind of silly to expect them to.

 

The state needs to exercise some kind of common-sense censorship. If it doesn't, things will degenerate to the point one day where a truly reactionary government, a fascist-like one, may step into the moral vacuum.

 

Or it could be said that "common-sense censorship" is the seed from which fascism can grow.

 

Surely, it would be better to tell your husband that having VR would exacerbate your addiction to masturbation and porn. He might well be willing to make a sacrifice to support you, so that you do not objectify other males and their genitals.

 

I have no issues with VR, but if I did, I'm sure my husband would respect that.
