Came back to Nofap

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, May 13, 2016.

  1. Hi all,
I came back to Nofap today to hopefully get another fresh start. I've been watching porn on a weekly basis and it's getting to the point again where I'm not able to control it, I mean I can last two weeks without ever looking at it, but once depression kicks in I'm lured to it. Not long ago I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder so now I have a clear idea of what's causing my depression. Hence it turns out I view porn as a means of escaping stress as it gives a sense of relief.

My psychiatrist says that I'm not addicted to porn which is weird, I keep telling him porn has distorted the way I look at my self and life in general, but maybe I'm mislabeling porn for my bipolar disorder. Bipolar tends to make you feel guilty and shameful during episodes of depression. When manic (opposite of depression) you feel alleviated and have no need to indulge in anything like porn.

It won't be long again before my spirit to redeem myself from pornography dampens, it has happened numerous times. I'd really appreciate it if anyone in a similar struggle can give some advice or tips I should follow. Sorry if my English doesn't make sense, I'ts my second language.

Hey, glad you found your way back here :)
It's not so surprising your psychiatrist keep denying your addiction to porn. The idea has trouble making its way to Conventional Wisdom. I you feel you might be addicted, better acknowledge it and give it all to get over it. I did just that and it has helped me a lot.

    Good luck mate.

The explanation for this is quite mundane actually. Psychiatrists confine themselves to the current diagnostic manuals. If he is from America he will use the DSM-V and elsewhere (especially Europe), the ICD-10. Neither of these publications list porn as an addiction, ergo, you do not have a porn addiction!
