I was browsing you tube when I came across this video. It rang so true to me and made me rethink some misconceptions I had about my addiction. Its a lot more complicated than we think, but the solution to our addictive behaviors is really quite simple.

Humans are social animals and when we feel cut off and alone, we look for something else to fulfill us- like porn or drugs. But if we fill that void with relationships, our quality of life improves so much! Easier said than done, but maybe we should focus on making relationships instead of stopping porn use. That might help all of us be who we want to be.

  2. You might be on to something @David95 maybe instead of focusing our energy and attention on stopping porn use we should be focusing on developing relationships, and so eventually porn will not be an issue anymore.

But what if you have good connections and relationships with people? How come a trigger can lead to relapse?

@Bench I think there's a lot of factors. When I'm with people who know my addiction its easier to not relapse, but that just goes for me. Just look for what works for you!

In the realm of severe drug addiction research found that 9 out of 10 addicts experienced severe trauma around other people: Abuse, neglect, etc. Hence, for them, trusting others is not as easy as it is for most, sometimes even on a neurological rather than only on a psychological level. That's what can make 'finding comfort in human connection' rather difficult.
