    * I'm grateful for the book Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life

It's a self-help based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which has been shown to be very effective in numerous studies. The book was written by the original creator of ACT, Steven C. Hayes.

The downside of the book is that it doesn't give give guidelines on how often and how much you should work with it. Which my mind has used as a tool for excuses and procrastinating on working with it. But when I've worked intensively with it, it has helped me a lot with panic attacks, social anxiety, OCD, nervous tics and stress.

    * I'm grateful to Stephen C. Hayes for creating ACT. There are other self-help books based on ACT that might be more easily accessible and compact. If any of you find this intriguing.

    * I'm grateful for Buddha and Buddhism. I wouldn't call myself a Buddhist, but the core principles and techniques in Buddhism are incredibly powerful.

@WalkingForward You might also read "The Confidence Gap" it is also based on ACT and Mindfulness.

  3. Will have to check this out. Still haven't really made any progress with my social anxiety. Was hoping to have beaten it by my birthday but that's coming up in a week and I haven't made much of any progress lately.

Thankfully I will at least get to socialise before then regardless, but I definitely need to step my game up. Thanks for sharing.
    1. I'm grateful for the hypnotherapists who share free hypnosis videos on YouTube. I've found them to be immensely helpful in various regards in the past, and so am planning to try to listen to some social anxiety reversal hypnosis tracks pretty much every night for the next month or so.
    2. I'm grateful for the external hard drive I had sitting around that I actually hadn't ever really needed to use. Now that my one of my hard drives died - the one I had all my recordings/youtube stuff/etc on, it's serving as a makeshift replacement until I get a new one.
    3. I'm grateful the nice weather and how amazing I feel right now.

    Missed yesterday so 6 gratitudes
    1. I'm grateful for catching up with a friend. I and my friend went to watch the new Jason Bourne Film yesterday. I highly recommend it.
    2. I'm grateful for going to the park with friends. Today was a beautiful hot day.
    3. I'm grateful for hitting 10 days of NoFap. There haven't been any major urges and haven't searched any P or P related content.
    4. I'm grateful for a healthy body. Although I'm still young, I've tried to keep my body healthy.
    5. I'm grateful for books. I'm so grateful that books have existed thousands of years helping humans improve. There's always a book to help with a problem.
    6. I'm grateful for my higher being. My higher being is guiding me through life.

    I recommend it :)

The core principles of ACT is shown in this 5-minute clip (the passengers are metaphors for thoughts and feelings):

Awesome! I have a good friend who I haven't seen or talked to for quite a while. Maybe we could do the same.

  9. Wow I'm so glad I discovered this. Watched the video and the analogy really struck a chord with me. I wholly agree. I've been succumbing to the same thing - trying to control the passengers (my feelings of anxiety) and forgetting that I in fact could just accept them and steer the bus in the direction I want to go regardless.

How have I never heard of this before? CBT seems to be the most common thing discussed for anxiety but CBT never really resonated with me, and so I was left quite stuck. This on the other hand really resonates with me.

Perhaps this is the breakthrough I needed!

Watching this series on ACT for Anxiety now.

    1. I'm grateful for our (new) can opener. Sometimes you don't know how much you appreciate something until it stops working. Suffice to say, we got a new one today.
    2. I'm grateful for my ears. If I didn't have working ears, I wouldn't be able to listen to music or hear people talking to me.
    3. I'm grateful for tempeh. It is a fantastic vegetarian substitute for meat. Much better than tofu in my opinion.

1:: I am grateful I can see how hard I can be toward myself and my efforts.
2:: I am grateful I took time to meditate today
3: I am grateful for the connections I make between my thought and my behaviors when I relapse.

    1. I'm grateful to @WalkingForward for sharing info about ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). The principles on which it is based are the same principles my friend helped me with years back which allowed me to get past my social anxiety and start living a normal life - now that I need their help again, finding them in a well structured form of therapy is going to be a godsend. I'm very confident that using these principles I'll be able to start living a normal life again. I'm no longer feeling afraid that I'll be stuck suffering because of my anxiety. :)
    2. I'm grateful to Tom Lavin for posting a series of lectures about using ACT for anxiety on YouTube (here). The guy explains things very simply and rather than feeling that sense of "Is this really going to work or is this just going to be another video that motivates me for 5 minutes and then fails to achieve any results?" that I get with a lot of social anxiety related videos on YouTube - I feel that this is actually helpful information.
    3. I'm grateful for my motivation to be more productive the past couple of days.

    • I am grateful for the time I get to spend with a certain someone and the appreciation and affection that I give and receive, as well as for the fun that we have.
    • I am grateful for the inner calm and clarity that I am experiencing lately. I feel proactive/productive, well-adjusted and well-organized.
    • I am grateful for my ability to respond to people, circumstances and events in a constructive, efficient, stress-free and healthy way; with clarity, maturity, and self-confidence.

I am happy for this thread. I joined it a few days ago.

My wife has been trying to get me to do a gratitude journal for years and it is easier to participate as a part of this community.

I'm curious if some longer term members are experiencing a shift in attitude or mood as a result and I would enjoy and invite that sharing.

Gratitude is the foundation for abundance. I truly believe that you cannot be grateful and experience or feel lack at the same time. The important thing is to not just enumerate 3 things off the top of your head that you're "grateful" for (almost like a chore) and then hit "Post Reply" and go on about your day. You need to really pause for a few minutes, search for something that you're truly grateful for, and feel that gratitude with every cell of your body. Then your attitude and mood have already been shifted in an instant. No long-term studies necessary :)

    Beautiful.

The sentence about gratitude and lack was meaningful to me.

    Thank you.
