Oh man.... I played this a lot since 2003, when I'm six. Aunt give me her old pc (win98), and i found some demos on disc with Microsoft software, games like AoE, Monster Truck Madness 2, MS pinball arcade, MS golf etc...
It was one of my first games, had a big influence on me. I remember, I entered in a cardboard box, and I pretended that I am an archer on an elephant ahahahah

Loved the game. My record was spending 11 hours after my finals in 5th grade. It was probably the most addictive game after Roadrash.

I think the only reason I quit playing the game was my new mbp.

I enjoy those types of games as well. Lately I have been playing this game "Civilization 5".

Yea my bad. That was a stupid contraction for MacBook Pro.

With that said, you have some level of stamina in avoiding the raging headache post Age of Empires.

I used to play AoE all the time. I got the first two as an impulse buy at walmart (well, not entirely on impulse. I kept stopping to look at it every time I went there). I quit the first one before too long but got hooked on the second. I never completed every campaign, though it wasn't for lack of effort. I also put a fair amount of time into the third. I liked what they tried to do with the skirmish mode or whatever it's called but felt it was missing "something". I was happy with the campaign mode. All in all I put much more time into the second. Many, many hours...

good to know Alien. honestly, I haven't heard a player who has said otherwise. Infact, it's a timeconsuming game .

The second edition is the most popular version among all 3. it's still very popular being played @ voobly/ gameranger/ and now even steam

    I love that sequence.
There's honor, sacrifice, chivalry, epic vengence.
    It has it all.

What about Empire Earth? It's an old game that I only discovered a few years ago on gog, similar to but bigger than AoE. It also has three games, with the first being the best of the series. The first is less polished yet shines as a strategy game and is still getting mods 15 years after being released. The second went too far in the direction of strict "rock paper scissors" and using mass waves of units. You also have to mod it to decrease tree density of all things to keep it from turning into a lag fest. I haven't played the third but from what I've read it was seriously watered down.

I've been playing Age of Empires II on and off since the early 2000s. AoE II was the best game in the series. I found the first game too primitive for my tastes and I was never able to get into AoE III.

I bought AoE II HD along with The Forgotten expansion a couple years ago. I'm not much into the campaigns. Most of the time I play the random maps.

Yeah, I spend lots of hours playing the game (especially AoE 2).
And to be honest, playing the campaign was 1000 times more interesting and informative than the boring history classes. :p

I'm quite ambivalent of computer games at the moment.
I stopped playing that much since graduating university in 2014,
started nofap in 2015, got more free time, and the last months I started playing again :p
But it's more like binging, I played Crysis 3 campaign in a week and gone through ME3 in about the same time, often in 3-5h game sessions.
I'm only playing single player campaigns because multiplayer sucks up too much time, especially MMOs.
Sure it's interesting and challenging sometimes, but I realized in general, I stay up late, and if that happens, I have less willpower and urges like to hit in the evening or at night.
So I have to be far more aware of that.
    Has anyone similar experiences ?

But I stay with that computer games are cool, if enjoyed in moderation.

firstly good to know a person having similar interest in aoe.

to answer your question, I don't think we need to blame game for increasing urges rather it's the habit of staying up till late night(read loneliness) which is the root cause. So wake up late only if you find some LAN partners else we must play during daytime, if at all.

Had to dig up this thread, as I stumbled upon new stuff.
Actually I'm quite happy I played only these oldschool games.

Now I've got some more general aspects of gaming.

I found one part of this article quite interesting:
    http://www.returnofkings.com/134475/why-are-male-feminists-such-creeps
Ok, it's more from a red pill / anti feminist perspecive, but this one struck me:

Next thing: interesting, how many parallels are between the gaming and PMO addictions.

Also I found this post, which made me really angry.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/com..._the_cost_of_heroes_in_battlefront_2/dpszed1/
I'm glad I'm ignoring almost all of these new games, but seriously, modern society seems to try to trap you in an addiction on every possible occasion.

Ofc this doesn't apply to AoE and therefore is basically another topic, but that was the only thread I recalled about games. If there is more interest in this topic, we can move it to a separate Thread.

  19. AoE: 2 was the only game I played on the computer when I was younger, I bloody loved that game to death.

  20. I used to play it when I was at school. I do think it has some sort of value in developing a strategic mind, especially when playing multi-player against others.
