I'm just speaking about my experience, most people would not agree with me on this topic. My girlfriend reasoned with me this morning after I purchased some music on itunes, that music I listened to when I was addicted to porn can be a trigger to watch porn again. The reason being is that music has powerful emotional and subconscious effects on the brain and so it can bring back associations connected to porn use. Music that has to do with sex, drugs, and rock and roll could lead me back to being permissive about watching porn. Does anyone find that music can have a really strong impact when coupled with porn addiction? Does music have a strong impact on the mind? I would think so. That's why whatever music we do listen to in a way reflects how we live.

  2. Absolutely! I'm fairly certain psychology would back you up on that. I think the power is in the memories, and the reason music is so powerful is because it plays on so many different senses that the memories associated with those songs are so strong.

Just think about popping in some CD you listened to on road trips with your family as a kid... or in high school with your friends... or a song you heard a funeral or a wedding or during a sad time in your life. Those feelings come rushing back, sometimes even subconsciously.

Personally, for me, there's one very specific song that almost always reminds me of PMOing. It isn't even that inappropriate of a song, really, but I listened to it a lot in those days, so I can't really listen to it anymore without the thought of PMOing coming up.

  3. wow, what a great thought, the music we listen to reflects how we live. quite genius.

Yeah anything associated with Porn can definitely remind you of it.
Music can be a catalyst. There is nothing wrong in admitting that . Many people arouse even to cartoon images.
An addict needs food to fulfill his hunger and the food could b anything. It dont need to b Veg or non veg, nooodle, burger or anything.

  5. Funny you ask this, I was on Reddit the other day and apparently there's a "NoMusic" page lol Where guys try to go 90 days without listening to any type of music. They were saying how "when music peaks and you get chills its a dopamine release. So by applying the same logic as nofap that means too much music desensitizes your reward circuit and will ruin self esteem/confidence" some of them were taking a break for psychological reasons too. Them wanting a break from Degrading lyrics which could lead to a relapse.

Yeah, definitely.. I studied this topic of music a lot and it's shocking actually. Music is in the brain like some sort of highway, it gets from the outside in the inside without anything being able to stop it. Let me explain.. In a conversation our prefrontal cortex helps us filter the things we hear. We might accept some and reject others, it's perfectly fine and it depends on your moral values.

You see, music doesn't get filtered like that apparently, everything just goes right in causing an emotional reaction. Try listening to sad music for one hour and check if you state of mind changed, pretty big chances that it did and I know that sad music made me feel lonely and sad(of course). And what do you do when you are lonely and sad? I don't know but I used to PMO so I too cut on my Playlist quite a lot lately but I'm still listening to a whole lot of bullshit that i shouldn't.

I don't have sources to back up scientifically what I said above but I got this and many more info about music and the effects on the brain from an online seminar called "The distraction dillema".. You should find it online for free but if you don't send me a pm and I'll look it up where I saw it if you are interested in about 10 hours of facts and studies on music, music history and lots of others

I used to watch the music video compilation P videos, often they would be electro dance music. Now especially when I hear the songs that were in such videos it instantly makes me think if the scenes in the compilation.
Then you've got the overly sexualised mainstream music artists like Niki minaj and Iggy azalea (of many others) who don't really help much. Their songs are basically audio P scenes lyrically. Then they throw in overly sexualised dancing and outfits to accompany it anyway.

Maybe I am the exception that proves the rule, but my experience is quite different from the posts on this topic so far:
Music has no effect whatsoever in permissiveness drugs, sex or even porn.
I cannot think of any song that is connected with porn or masturbation or would incline me to do so.
I do not find this in my case.
It seems to be for some, but not for me. I like to listen to music that articulates my thoughts and emotions.
That is not my experience. I find music has a positive effect on me.
No, not at all. Neither is the reverse true with me. So, music cannot alter my mood.
I do not listen to dance music.

I remember having a series of music videos that I would watch...all female singers, all pretty ,sexy voices....so one way or another, I was associating the pretty/sexy with music that "I want to listen to".

Definitely no doubt about it I had and I am trying to get rid of this addiction where I would make a slideshow of girls I know and play this music without its it's fairly arousing but with it its crazy. Only song I found that does it though but still trying to stop that

  15. Yeah, there's certain songs that I hear on the radio that are super sexual in nature and are kind of a trigger. Especially if I go seek out the music videos, those can be porn subs for sure.

It's sad to know that our popular music has been affected by pornography in our culture. It has created more obstacles for us porn addicts in recovery.

I was a habitual listener of classic rock bands such as The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, ACDC, Guns and Roses, etc. during my addiction years. This music definitely has sexual and misogynistic themes within the music. I know that sometimes we have to separate the art from the artist, but if you take a look at all of these rockstars, they definitely slept around and used women and their music blatantly displays that. I can only speak for myself though.
