    Hi all,

I'm just curious if anybody is/was concerned about coming out about porn or sex addictions based on any stigmas or negative stereotypes that they didn't want to be dragged into. I know I certainly did. I didn't want to be remembered as a creep or some kind of pervert, or some chronic masturbator like that guy from Silence of the Lambs. So I'm just curious if other people felt pressured or unwilling to admit to themselves or others of their issues based on things like that.

As of this post I'm 15 days porn free.

The stigma attached to porn has kept many of us in the shadows and especially any sort of addiction to it. Even worse of a stigma is being controlled by masturbation.

Congratulations on being 15 days sober and welcome to NoFap! You are amongst friends who are here to encourage you and not judge you.

What are your current strategies for combating the enemy called PMO?

Thanks D.J the encouragement has been great.

I'm doing a lot of counselling. I have one for my normal anxiety and one that works specially on male sexuality so it's a bit of a dual attack on the processing side of things. I've also been detoxing my body by doing a week long fast which helps clear any emotional blockages which I've found helpful. Between all that, working and studying it's been fairly easy to resist any urges, of which there haven't been any. Honestly I haven't had any urge to go back to porn so far, I'm more focused on actually engaging in sex with my partner.

I did an entire 18 page research on behavioral addictions in general, with an unofficial focus on porn (I have dropped vague hints during the quarter that I have had a behavioral addiction, but never explicitely stated what it was) for my English Social Sciences class, as I'm majoring in Psychology; I'm turning it in next week, but I got an A- on the last version, so I don't think I've done that bad. Behavioral addictions are often times seen as more personality flaws than anything, whereas substance addictions are usually less seen as the fault of the person and more a result of different environmental factors such as bad friends, traumas that one needs to deal with, etc. What it boils down to is quite simply the lack of awareness on behavioral addictions like porn. So yes, there is a massive stigma attached to it, and most people could not possibly imagine that a porn addiction is a legit thing, let alone the mechanics of escalation and the hedonic ladder etc. It's a sad, sorry state, but I don't blame people. The "experts" can't even officially make up their own minds on diagnosis.
