Making this journey I have discovered that consuming alcohol makes this pledge to give up porn and masturbation far tougher. When I am hungover I am too used to fapping to make myself feel better. So this time I want to do the abstain from fapping and alcohol together. It is something that has caused big problems in my life, the lows caused from excessive drinking is not good, when I think I have made progress with drinking, I realise that I haven't made any at all. The amount of friends that I've lost and stupid situations I get myself into thanks to drinking too much is countless.

So I want to go 1 month abstaining from both. And from then who knows what I'll decide to do.

Keep up the fight guys, it'll be worth it in the end.

Good luck to you, I also get disgusted by my old drinking habits sometimes. Used to always pretend I thought it was funny when friends talked about what crazy stuff I had been doing the night before, but I always thought it was sad so I know what youre going through.

If you want help go stop any unwanted habits I strongly recommend reading Changing for Good by James O Prochaska which really helped me to stop drinking and smoking completely six years ago (and ive never touched a drop or smoked since) Worth a look? I cant recommend it enough mate and its been used successfully by a few people on this site. All the best :)

  4. I'm going to make an inquiry on this one tomorrow. The copyright or the publication date is 1995 though. I wonder but if you feel strongly, I'd like to have a look. Thanks for posting

  5. Hi fletchy888,

THAT, is an ambitious goal. I haven't read your thread but will take a look. I'm a 48 year old guy, and I've struggled mightily with the alcohol. I've smoked, on and off, since age 14. I don't mean to say that it is impossible. Rather, it is awe inspiring.

Good luck with that my friend!

Its as relevant now as when it was written, probably more so to be honest! Contains pretty timeless information so honestly dont let the piblication date put you off (I didnt even realise it was that 'old' to be honest)

For me it's the exact opposite, all my friends are drinking a lot of beer, so when I see them I will likely drink too, so abstaining from alcohol, as i'm trying to do now, actually costs me friends. Being sober when everyone is drunk sucks.

Cheers Mark, it sounds like it's worth a shot. I think I'll buy a copy. Oh yeah I do smoke as well, I have a plan to stop that too, but all in good time, I think e-cigarettes will help kick them, I used one for about a month last year and the difference is great, no wheezing and stuff.

Yeah it's quite a big thing to be able to give up alcohol completely, for the last several years I have based most of my social activities around drinking quite a lot. I do like urban nightlife a lot when I get to do it, but being back now in the rural territory for more than 5 months, I have done it occassionally, once a month. When I was living in cities it was more like twice a week.

I've debated this to certain people, in the UK it's too embedded in our culture, I and many others struggle to answer this; what can one do at night that is social and does not involve alcohol?

I'm sure the answer should be easy, but why can't that many people answer it.
