Frustration with "unexpected" porn

One of the roadblocks I've run into in previous attempts to quit PMO are when you encounter "porn" from unexpected sources.

It's probably the nature of our re-wired, PMO induced brains that perhaps we've become oversensitive but for instance, when I run into unexpected land mines such as browsing through my local newswebsite and in their "metro" section or something there are photos from a recent sexy lingerie show that took place and a simple thumbnail of some sexy chick in her underwear is enough to set me off.

I cited an example in another post where I was at the mall passing a Victorias Secret store and the 10 foot tall posters of virtually naked VS models was enough to make "him" take notice.

A close up of a pretty face in a magazine, or on a billboard, hearing that sexy female voice on the radio advertising the benefits of male enhancement pills, commercials for TV dramas full of "sex and deception".

Sex is absolutely everywhere you go, it's unavoidable and that's a huge source of frustration for people like us. Oversensitive to the slightest hint of erotic imagery. Now that i'm doing the NoFap thing, it's worse than ever, a stiff breeze gets me horny now, it's ridiculous. It's almost as if I don't have to go out and find porn, porn finds me.

It almost feels like our society wants us tame and passive and just staying home fapping to porn all day. That's why sexualized images are peppered throughout even the most innocuous media. Kids shows, video games, websites. I'm really beginning to resent it.

But on another level, I think it's all in the way we perceptualize things. Really anything can be porn if you let it get into your head a certain way. The trick is to try to turn off those associations between sex and even the most innocent images. As Freud said, sometimes "a cigar is just a cigar". Sometimes there is intent to arouse and other times it's simply our brains that turn it into a source of titillation.

I'm sure it's not a stretch to say that many of you have experienced the same thing.

  2. Been there, failed that. Reducing overall internet and media intake was helpful for me. But when the triggers do come, it's best to address as soon as possible. The longer it takes, the more they settle into your mind and take it where it shouldn't go. I say a quick "Hail Mary" and pray for that particular woman that she experience true love through her husband or friends. Then move on! The idle mind is the devil's playground.

I totally know what you mean. Sex is Everywhere nowadays. It's like, if you're trying to get away from all sexual imagery, you can't watch tv, too many commercials. most movies are out, they've all got the obligatory at-least-half-naked women. I like to read F&SF fiction, and I can barely look at the covers! No wonder children are turning more swiftly to porn now. It's all around them anyway!

Note: I'm Scott1971 under a new username, but I felt compelled to come back to this thread for a moment...

I do a lot of work in Photoshop, Illustrator etc and sometimes I have to Google for a specific image. Yesterday, I did a search in Google images for something to make a birthday card for my son. I can't remember exactly what keywords I used but it was basically for things related to LEGO.

An entire page of Lego-related thumbnails pops up and right smack in the middle is a mid-torso shot of a woman pulling her blouse open, clark-kent style, and exposing her assets. And I'm thinking REALLY? How in the hell did this get tagged under LEGO?

Not only does this exemplify my original point that sexual imagery is everywhere, but also look how difficult it is to keep it from your children! If my son had been doing a similar search, he would have seen that.

As I said, I'm thoroughly beginning to resent all of this blatantly sexualized imagery cropping up where it doesn't belong. Porn is one thing, it's supposed to be there for those that want to look for it. But on billboards, magazine and newspaper ads, product packaging, it's just everywhere. No wonder it's so hard for some of us to get off PMO, there are triggers wherever you go.

It's a big problem for guys with our problem and I have experienced it. Especially when I first started quitting, those unexpected images could be a trigger. Someone mentioned google images, and they are right. Images.google.com is a blocked site on my computer. Also, I use porn blockers which help a lot. Hypersexualized imagery can trigger for me, so, for instance, I don't, at this point in my recovery, want to be able to--or accidentally--access to certain music videos. Again, blocking certain sites, using porn blockers, and being willing to click out instantly when such an images appears, works to greatly reduce those accidents. Good luck.
