I began watching porn over 20 years ago. My younger brother was given a video by an older boy and I would sneakily watch it whenever i was home alone. I was 13. I'm a girl. We got the internet the next year and the first site I visited was Playboy, after reading about it in the newspaper.

Now the longest I can go without PMO is 16 days. It's difficult to M without P or thinking about it. It's become clear that I need a community to help shake this.

My goal is to have a healthy sexuality where all I need is my own imagination, a good understanding of my body, and a tangible desire for connection (emotional, physical, verbal and spiritual) with someone I love.

Starting with a goal of 30 days, as of yesterday.

Rewired...thanks for sharing and glad to have you here. Your right about developing and cultivating healthy relationships. We have altered our mental pathways with the use of porn and masturbation. It is hard for all of us because many have started down this road of addiction cycle when we were young. Another aspect that many do not realize is that this addiction to pmo is not concern with our stations in life. Men , women, doctors, to the guy working at taco bell struggle. Rich or poor we all share this common thread. Thanks for showing up to your recovery rewired. I look forward to sharing this journey with you. God bless!

Hi Rewired, welcome to the forums :)
I agree with Aeonez, initially it may seem porn is the issue when in reality it's the mental pathways it's created in us, esp if we started out young, as many of us have... I certainly did ! It creates a pathway for a quick fix whenever issues crop up in our lives, stress, anxiety, boredom, loneliness etc etc. It's of course a false, temporary fix that leaves us feeling depressed afterwards, but it's a powerful connection that's very hard to break. The only real solution is a total reboot, some come here thinking they can achieve success with partial abstinence... they are wrong, and their failures testify to such. You read some with counters saying they have abstained from both P and M for over 100 days, you wonder how they achieved that.... it's day by day, success by success (generally after several false starts), and before you know it, you're well on the road to recovery. Our bodies and minds are wonderful things, quite capable of recovery once given the opportunity, and generally rebound stronger than ever before.
Your best weapon is to post regularly, keep visiting this site, and read many of the journals ppl have posted here, you'll gain much insight to the many keys of success, certainly for me they were an enormous help in my recovery. Sometimes just one line someone wrote in a post was enough inspiration to keep me on the straight and narrow !
We wish you all the success in the world, and I mean that genuinely, online you might not find a single group so committed to each others growth and success... if you succeed then we all do :)
Best of luck, I'll be keeping an eye on your thread, and look forward to reading your journey along the way !
