It could be a good middle step in your path to being able to again sexually fulfil your wife. There would be less performance anxiety than with p in v. You would need to concentrate on your wife and the experience rather than fantasizing. You may have to take it in steps, stopping if fantasies begin. That being said, I would hope you have at least a few weeks of hard mode under your belt and some open conversation with her before you attempt it.
