I don't know where to ask this question but NoFap seems like one of the better places to ask. I started taking sertraline/Zoloft about 2 weeks ago. My PIED was finally starting to go away and I would get erections in school jut by talking to girls and I got rid of the 'death grip syndrome'. My depression has been super bad the entire flatline and I developed really bad OCD. I tried therapy but it didn't work so I wanted to start taking a medication while still doing therapy. Pretty much I couldn't take being depressed all the time, and in return, the medication causes me to have complete ED and my penis has no sensitivity at all. I still have healthy, sexual dreams very often, but my original goal going into Nofap was to get rid of PIED, which I achieved. Right now I am at a crossroads of whether to take the Zoloft and loose all sex hormones and have insomnia or have depression and OCD, never wanting to hang out with friends. What do you guys think?

One of my previous posts was about my anxiety and OCD if you want to read about it.

Hi there, I know that drugs like that have lack of libido and difficulties with O as a common side effect.

My personal experience taking Zoloft was that my libido hit zero but after a few weeks it returned to almost normal after a few weeks.

I understand that the usual approach is that if you dont want this side effect, then you can try other drugs which are similar but different. So you can maintain the anti-depressive etc therapeutic effect but without the side effects.

Perhaps just chat to your doctor?

Did your libido and sensitivity ever come back while on Zoloft, or did it 'dead' until you got off? I've been on it for almost 2 weeks and I'm starting the feel the anti depressive effects but everyday my libido gets worse.

And I have a check up soon about my drug so I'll mention these problems.

  6. One of the side effects these drugs have is decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm. I took citalopram for about a week then stopped when I found out what it was doing to me. These drugs decrease your blood flow, you need high blood flow to get an erection. So there's your problem.

If you do some research I think you will find that a lowered sex drive is pretty common for Zoloft. Keep in mind though, each anti-depressant can affect you differently. If Zoloft is creating this problem for you just talk to your doc and transition to a different med. They've heard it all before...happens all the time.

Actually, reduced libido and difficulty in orgasm is so common with the SSRI type of anti-depressants (such as Zoloft) that it is slightly annoying to me that doctors don't warn patients that this is a side effect. In my experience, doctors are very bad at doing this.

In Australia, pharmacists in my experience have become very good in the last 5 to 10 years at asking 'have you taken this before' and if the answer is 'no', then they patient explain possible side effects and check potential interaction with other medications. But never mentioning libido and inorgasmia, which could be really upsetting for someone who is already depressed and not realising that it is a very common side effect.

From my own perspective, reduced libido is a very welcome side effect of taking SSRIs (I have just started taking Prozac and after a week, it seems as if the side effect has kicked in).

But as people have said, if this is an unwelcome side effect, then my understanding is that other SSRIs may not have the same side effect for you.
