Hi community. So I've successfully completed 21 days of no PMO. But occasionally especially at this time of the night (9-12am MT) I end up on websites that I used to frequent before. It usually arises as an anxious response when I'm studying (for medical school) and it is not a welcome distraction. I just got out of an obsessive romantic relationship and I'm on my way towards sobriety and I will explain my situation more clearly later but I need urgent help in:

    1. Permanently blocking porn sites and Craigslist on my home network and devices
    2. Having an accountability buddy in person (just like an AA sponsor) who can talk to me for a few minutes at night to discuss some issues. I'm from Calgary, AB here in Canada so if somebody is from here, that's amazing.
    3. Online accountability buddy - I'm willing to set up a Google Hangout - we don't have to talk so much or at all (just a hi and hello!) but this can be a way for me to be firm with my decision to remain sane and focused on my sobriety.

Please post here or PM me if you can help me. I sound desperate because I kinda am. I love how my body and mind and spirit has transformed in the last 21 days because of NoFap and I don't want my progress to stall. My goal is to be on this track for at least 1, then 3, then 6, then 9 months until I've fully retired my brain and am able to face reality squarely and truthfully. Peace.

Has anybody here used Covenant Eyes? My family and friends (and ex partner) don't know I'm suffering from this porn addiction thing so I don't even know who I'll send my report to. But please tell me if anyone among you has used a similar method and whether it was effective. Thing is, I have 4 gadgets - an iPhone, a MacBook Pro, 2 IPads. I want a full proof and integrated way that all my devices are "safe" and porn + cruising sites free. I am not in social networking sites except this and some medical school related sites. Any help any lead would do.

For blocking porn/other sites on your entire home network I recommend OpenDNS. It's a bit complicated to setup but it's worth it.

Honestly, I tell people this frequently. Those of you who look to have the blocker do the work for you, often will fail. The blocker isn't addressing the problem, sure it can be a moral support, but the blocker only makes it more of a taboo, something that might be just out of reach but that our bodies crave. I use this story frequently when talking to people. My roommate last year wanted to quit porn. He didn't get on NoFap, however he used covenanteyes to keep him in line. His mom was his monitor, and his internet also was turned off at 10pm automatically every night. It was a huge pain. Well he did this for 2 years with no porn, by just the "support" of covenant eyes. However, in the spring a few months back he decided he didn't think he needed it anymore, that he was cured. He talked to his mom and they agreed and she removed it. Within ONE WEEK he relapsed and watched porn.

The blockers don't fix the issue, they just take your attention away from them. If you really want to be successful in a life time reboot, the blockers will help but only if you focus on yourself and changing that mindset that craves porn, other wise you just repress the craving - never beating it. I hope this gives some insight. If craigslist is an issue for you @AspiringMD, you might just be best to stay off the internet at night or when alone unless you have a goal in mind. I need to do X research for class, or I will watch 1 episode of netflix or I am going to watch netflix and when I am done I am getting off to go read. I hope this helps!

Thanks! I am doing both. Out of sight, Out of mind but also recognizing allowing investigating and then detaching from my addiction to porn, cruising and obsessive thinking. I will attend my first local SAA meeting today to get that group support but I will also look for a mental health/addictions counselor next week to support me further. Will go to the gym and join a Brazilian jiu-jitsu club on campus as well for a healthy release of testosterones and deal with inward anger and agression. Please pray for me. I'll keep myself focused as I want to be able to help others deal with this as well.
