    I just discovered this post:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/NoFap/comments/2ay2un/6_things_for_a_successful_recovery/

    Also this video:

It links to a website where a certain "Dr. Richards" is giving advice concerning sexual exhaustion. The website mentioned in the post also has a shop where they sell supplements. I looked up the "publications" by Dr. Richards which are listed on the site from this post and could not find a single one online.

I experience all the symptoms described on the site and in the video (wet dreams, ear buzzing, concentration problems, depression, elevated heart rate and a lot more) for 7 months already and am really at the lowest point in my life.

I am in no way connected to this website and just want to find out if the information is based on some real research or not. Is anyone with medical knowledge here who can confirm or disprove the articles and claims made in the post and on this website? Or is this just a way to sell supplements?

I am not sure if it is allowed to post the link to the website here, so I left in out.

What difference would it make to you, whether true or false? Would it help strengthen you to make change in your life?

In my opinion, it is certainly possible to get tired, but whether it's possible--or even helpful--to "diagnose" such a condition is unlikely. It seems more like internet sensationalism.

If you want to know the answer, ask your therapist and your doctor. But again, be clear with yourself why the information would be important.

It is important because I want to recover and give my body the best chances to heal. I spent some money on supplements (but not from the mentioned website) like l-tyrosine, l-tryptophan, gaba, l-arginin and some herbs. I suffer already for 7 months and just tonight had a wet dream after which I could not fall asleep again. My supply of the mentioned supplements is slowly declining and I wanted to know if they are of any use. It is hard to judge for me because my symptoms persist for so long and improve very slowly. I don't know how I would feel if I have not taken the supplements also.

"Tired" is quite an understatement to how I feel for months. I need to know if I missed some important information or this is simply an extremely protracted withdrawal about which I can not do very much except the usual stuff mentioned everywhere (workout, socialize, cold showers etc.)

TL;DR: It makes a difference in my wallet.

Then I would definitely talk to my doctor about it. Self-diagnosis is dangerous, and supplements have very little evidence to support their use. For instance, vitamin D is one of the few that actually DOES help, but vitamin C doesn't because the body can only absorb about 250mg per day, and it flushes the rest out of the system. So vitamin C doses of more than that are a waste, except for the placebo effect it might produce.

I'm sorry--I didn't mean to suggest that you SHOULDN'T want to know the answers to your questions, simply that one should be aware of one's expectations.

I told my neurologist about porn addiction. He was intrigued but he didn't know such a thing exists.

I guess we're suffering from adrenal fatigue.

    Maybe this will help.

Then stay committed to NoFap. There isn't an herbal supplement that will make your brain heal as fast as abstaining from PMO will. Supplements are fine, but if it's a strain on your wallet, forget about 'em and focus on the free things you can do (which probably have a lot more impact).

All the stuff he's talking about in that video--fatigue, lack of concentration, lack of motivation, etc--those are also evident when the dopamine/reward system is hijacked from constant PMO.

I don't know that there's any scientific evidence to suggest there's a link between PMO and the more severe neurological issues he mentioned, like Parkinson's symptoms or severe sleep disturbances.

I went to inpatient treatment for 45 days at 'Gentle Path at The Meadows', which was founded by sex-addiciton-pioneer Patrick Carnes himself. It's considered the best treatment facility for sex addiction in the entire world. It's where Tiger Woods went. It costs a s***-ton of money to go there, so the people who do go there really need help. Out of the 50-some men I met while I was in treatment, I never encountered a single one who had the kind of severe symptoms this video is talking about. That doesn't mean it's impossible, but it does make me very skeptical about some of those claims.

Sadly this is exactly what I am experiencing. My hands are shaking, I have very poor concentration and poor memory. Prior to this condition I had excellent memory and was very sharp mentally. An MRI of my head has been done and all possible blood parameters checked. Nothing has been found except some relativly low testotesterone for my age. It was still within the range. But low T does not cause all the symptoms. Just tonight I had a wet dream again and it was impossible to fall asleep again. I feel completely inflamed like burning from the inside, pressure on ears, dizzy, lightheaded, no emotions, mood swings, depresson, palpitations.

These symptoms are somewhat similar to SSRI withdrawal: https://mentalhealthdaily.com/2014/04/15/zoloft-sertraline-withdrawal-symptoms-list-duration/

Basically I have every symptom listed except the brain zaps and the cramps. But I have very stiff jaw and neck.

I am no fuckin' hypochondriac. At least 3 other people about my age(20-30) have contacted me on forums going through the same thing for months. Two even for at least a year. They had to quit university/their job because of this. This is no joke.

My apologies, brother. I'm not trying to dismiss your situation. It just seems awfully severe to simply be the consequences of PMO withdrawl and nothing else--particularly when you've been clean for 7 months.

Hopefully some guys with more direct experience with those types of symptoms will chime in.

I also want to add that I had tried to quit porn earlier in my life. I am 27 now.

When I was 21 or 22 I had ED. I abstained from porn for a few weeks and was able to get hard easily.

Later when I was 24-25 I had difficulties learning for finals during a reboot - extreme irritability, difficulty concentrating. I had to PMO to be able to learn for finals. After finals I quit and went through withdrawals for 2-3 weeks. I had wet dreams for 2 weeks or so.

Now at 27 I didn't even want to go on NOFAP/reboot. It simply hit me with all the shit listed above. Prior to this extreme crisis I PMOed at least 3 times a day for 2 months. I instantly stopped masturbating because I thought I was going crazy. After a month I started dreaming (vivid dreams) constant sex dreams and had WDs for 3 months.

You may ask why I always came back to PMO? Well I was an addict and thought that the withdrawals were quite manageable. I thought I could come back and go into normal mode within 2 weeks or so.
