The Dangers of Social Media [My Perspective]

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Deleted Account, Jul 2, 2017.

  1. Almost every relapse I've had was thanks to Social Media.

Instagram has become a clusterfuck of barely-clothed women. It's skewing our perspective of how beauty should be. Instead of taking the time to acknowledge our strengths and weaknesses as human beings. We're developing a jealousy towards the "Ideal" superficial values on Instagram. Ladies with big assets, perfect bodies. Men with good jawlines and sharp features. We're subconsciously telling ourselves that this is what we want to strive for and this creates a very negative mindset.

Also, the fact that majority of the pictures on the explore page is as close to porn these days is shocking. So many times I've told myself during a reboot, "I just want to check out what's on my explore page. Maybe I'll see something funny or interesting".

Do you want to know how it almost always ends? With my dick in my hands, asking myself why I just did what I did.

I've deleted my Instagram account. I felt that social interactions and bonds are supposed to be made face to face. Anything important can be done through a text or an email. Nothing that would involve anything irrelevant. I was in denial at first but now I'm actively seeking out all the things that have been destroying my life.

I hope this has been somewhat useful :)

I hear that bro... The content of all of these big sites is way too much.
    Tumblr is the absolute worst.
    Fuck Tumblr.
I stick to NoFap and reading the News.

  3. Yeah, Tumblr's horrible. I've steered clear from that path ever since. I used to click on the archives and just BINGE away. It was absolutely disgusting. I'm glad we're both reaching the light at the end of the tunnel.

" Social media: connect people", no thank you. There are more ways to connect people without social media. Also you guys should watch out facebook. Today facebook can know anything about you, track, record your activities, they require you to use real name, real picture. They are gonna use them as evidences to when necessary (not sure to protect or against us). Better watch out.

Think very carefully before you upload your identity to an unsafe website. Many cam girls got deep regret when they did camming and someone recorded then upload to a porn site. Those videos will stay there forever, the cam girls are anxious to put them down but they can nothing. DACM can't accept all their requests since too many requests and they are growing.

I agree w/ the Instagram issues. Recently, my friend went on vacation to HI. and posted a bunch of pics of the, "beautiful beach". But of course that also had to include 100's of people in tiny bikinis & Speedos to (P)MO to!!! Other friends have done such on Instagram & Facebook too. (Facebook & Zuckerberg are just the N.S.A. in disguise! Data minning. Even if you delete UR F.B. acount they still keep all UR info!) I don't have Facebook or Instagram acounts. I'm from the old MySpace days when it was just as bad posting pictures. As you wrote above. It's not really 'social'. I too stick to TXT & email.

Keep up the great work everyone! Were in this Re-boot together.

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, tumblrs, YouTube channels are all filled with triggering material, the more you went astray with your PMO abuse (and self-abuse), the more unsafe it all is. One can witness being aroused in midst of going through material that isn't aimed at being or doing anything sexual, sometimes or often. A handsome man as a guest on a talk show about something entirely non-sexual suddenly draws you in simply because his clothes show how nicely shaped his torso is... stuff that gets you into a phase where you stare into your own reflection in the mirror and can't even see your own face, the junkie you've become. Tumblr and Instagram are the worst. Facebook is too messy and off-putting at times, so people tend to go for easier "PMO-flee market places" online. I love that you created this topic, we're all going through this stuff and sometimes it gets bats**t insane because it affects how you act among other people, in public and what you say. Your own self-expression can become something entirely unusual and crass. All definitely anti-social. I got such awful social skills, thank goodness that I recognized that THIS is the issue and kept on returning to this question bugging me and realizing that it is my addiction and that I need help.

Sorry (!) for going a little bit off-topic, but there's also this issue where your PMO addiction can be so strong and abusive that you'll find excuses so that you can stop facing it. I delted my account here on two occasions, if I'm not mistaken, under the impression that "this is all nonsense" and I am giving myself something healthy to focus on (!!!) since there's never a boyfriend around or certain life accomplishments to cherish. I was thinking to myself - "this has been around since I got my PC in 2002, I'm OBSESSED and I recognize it being an issue since I ADORE DYING AND DIVING IN THIS OBSESSION!". Now that's an alarm to join the fapstronauts once more and hopefully not let the virus ruining my mind stay there.

On-topic, yes, your right, folks, social networks are the worst and I am telling you this as someone who took it far very often, it was so easy to just find a profile, go through the pics (like a total "conventional average-day stalker") and start with all the fantasies and self-arousing. Men from all over the world on myspace, tumblr, facebook... you can have a boyfriend every day... all whilst completely crossing boundaries of propriety and becoming less and less sensitive to anti-social behaviors...

I didn't mean this to be such a long post, but I think some people here understand what it's like. We can do it, coming here is a sign that we want to change our focus and ourselves. I'm turning 28 this month and this addiction has come to the point where it's got less and less to offer... I want a morning that's waking up next to a man with mutual love involved, not some facebook/instagram status message along with a picture coming from a guy who doesn't (want to) admit/know 90% of his followers are there scrolling, browsing, looking for pictures to do you know what...

@CaptainXVIII light at the end of the tunnel - exactly!

  9. First of all, don't apologise ever for anything. Everything you've said is helpful. Secondly I'm glad to see someone as intelligent and open minded as yourself. We need this bond as a community to become stronger and progress towards our goals. :)

Next time you see something that is presenting itself as a trigger for your PMO addiction I hope you can realize that it is not the image of an object that is really disturbing, but how YOU perceive it as such that is the true origin of the disturbance inside of you.
Like if I see a child, I am not disturbed. But if someone who has problems with pedophilia sees the same child, he "sees" something else.
It's not the child that is disturbing, but instead, his own thoughts.
You can stop seeing everything from the perspective of your addiction. But because of the addiction, it won't let you.
You are the only one that can free yourself from this.
    Good luck.

Great post, and red-pilled. The vast majority of those sites are P or P-subs, instagram, tumblr, snapchat THOTs.. whatever. They're designed to get your hand on your dick to wank.

I have uninstalled Instagram, deactivated my fb profile. First it felt awkward, but now I am glad I did it.

Yes ! Social Media Is Poison .

  14. Hmm, that's true to some extent but it's a bit difficult since Pedophilia is a mental disorder whereas having attractions to females is more of a primal instinct, so it becomes much harder just to see it as it is. It takes much more discipline and willpower to overcome this. But yeah I agree with you. It's within us to change.

I believe that you are greater than your base "primal" urges. You are a civilized man, Not a sex-crazed monkey-man.
You are here (as I am), to change. Time to man up, stand up, and act like a boss. It seems you want to; and I know you can.
Best wishes and good luck to us both.
33 days PMO free proves it!

Great post, thanks for sharing. Instagram led to a lot of porn use for me as well. It was actually how my use came out with my wife as she found some compromising stuff that I had searched on the app. I think it's best to stay away from the sites, at least for a little while, in order to figure out how social media is going to figure into your recovery. Best.

Nice and Refreshing to see so many people willing to help out and are open minded , It's always the mind that which disturbs you from seeing true life , it was the same way for me too so yeah if you got to the point where you can control your urges even when seeing half-naked women , social media won't become a problem nor will be as Buddhabro said , however I still think social media is still kinda shitty though , however since I am still in my highschool , Facebook will really help me to not only chat with friends but with projects and assignments.

I'm a big Facebooker and am active in a number of groups. However, I'm perpetually empty as a result; bombarded with irrelevant, irritating and soul-destroying information overload that does nothing to nourish me.

I've deleted fb from my Android and have retained the account to maybe check as a treat every now and again in the public library on the way back home from work.

I'm hoping noFAP forums can become my new posting interests where I can talk, vent, bond etc.

PS it doesn't help when I'm trying innocent words and Google Keyboard keeps mis-suggesting inappropriate words that don't befit nofapsters like us!

I quit social media back in May of this year 2017. Best decision Ive ever made. Not only did it start to change how I saw women but how I saw their social habits as well. Before, even after I quit watching p I would browse social media for the next sexy pic to fap to.

Now anytime I notice a female with her phone in hand I don't even bother trying to talk to her because I already know she is addicted to it. If I notice a girl is taking pics and selfies I don't even talk to her. It's made females become so superficial and attention-whores. The likes and double taps have made females crave those more than actual meaningful relationships. Some girls know more about social media than actually maintaining a healthy relationship.

Social media makes us create this false sense of control in our heads. We fantasize and imagine things because of pics that are uploaded. We can view in privacy and secrecy, pics without ever suffering consequences. It also creates very needy and attached people. Very self centered people.
