what's the secret to going so long without PMO?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Lion'sDenDaniel, Aug 1, 2014.

  1. Hey guys and gals, Godschild here. I noticed that a few people are succeeding and many people are just stuck in their ways(me). I was just wondering what's your guys secret to go for so long? Thanks guy's and gals. It would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I would orient you to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) which tried to answer your question.
Also, it is not a matter of personnal will but of method : watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TX-Nu5wTS8
I don't consider myself as successful yet (let's see in two months), I may relapse tomorrow, but if it happens I'll get feedback and start again :)

My point of view is that if you stick to a specific NoFap strategy and you relapse, then you shouldn't use the same strategy on your reset. You can't do the same things again and again and expect different results. Set panic behaviours when triggered, use tools to block etc.. If something dosen't work for you, than CHANGE it. For me NoFap means CHANGE. change the way you think, the way you eat, the way you see you see people around you. Dont just focus on many days you have abstained. Progress matters, not days.

  6. That's true io123io. My plan is to change for x amount of days and hope that it holds me off for a lifetime. Thanks again.

    Please keep it coming guys.

All and any advice is helpful for me.

I agree with io123io. Not doing the same thing and expecting different results is a good one.

For myself it's quitting for life, not for a short period. I'd become heavily involved in PMO and chatting to the point where I was using it as a emotional crutch and I could see it getting me into trouble in the road ahead if my impulses kept taking the reins. In other words, a progressive Sex Addiction.

I was scared out of my mind once I realized it. Nofap was a God-send in helping me find my way out. For me there was no preferable choice; either change and go clean, or become a very distasteful sort of person, leading a double life that ultimately ends in ruin.

So the choice was to quit for life with no other option and I've stuck to it no matter how horrible it's been. The nofap community has been above and beyond supportive and I wouldn't have been able to get this far without the other fapstronauts.

My main here would be if someone is serious about quitting, it has to be for life. I haven't seen any of the success testimonials where the fapstronaut says they're still PMO-ing occasionally. However, I have read about renewed love-lifes and marriages.

A couple of helpful reasoning tools which I figured out thanks go nofap and YBOP.

    1) Sexual Release does not mean relaxation. The two are very different from each other. Hiking, walking, watching a sunset, take your pick) is relaxation. I think the distinction is important, because we believe culturally that Sexual Release is some ultimate form of relaxation. But it's not. This line of thinking, I believe, is the cause of so much relapse.

    2) Exercise is important to one's emotional / physical / spiritual well-being and should be integrated.

There is no secret. I looked for a long time, there isn't. There is only one way to succeed. STOP. You need to look yourself in the mirror and SCREAM "I will never PMO again!" You have to sincerely believe it though. Even the smallest amount of doubt breaks your resolve. It's no longer an option. YOU ARE PHYSICALLY INCAPABLE OF RELAPSING. Your done, that's it. You've had your fun, now it's over.

  13. Thanks Melancholyweightlifter. I appreciate the advice. Guys keep the advice coming.

  14. i just installed K9 on my Samsung Galaxy S3. I tested it out and it works. The downside to the browser is that it blocks YBOP....
Other than that, it works fine.

I don't have a 'smart' phone. Why don't you ditch yours and get a 'dumb' phone - just enough to send and receive texts/calls? That would remove a huge source of temptation.

Hey there! I thought about it this way....

Nothing changes until someone gets mad.

I got angry and I made a change. I haven't looked backed. I quit for the first time in 14 years and so far, so good.

    Good luck!

Hey Godschild, I just relapsed pretty hard and I want to blame K9 but mainly its me. So what I decided to do was go on K9, mangle up a password, copy and paste it (so you don't know what it is), send it to an email account I made (preferably new + one you don't use!), use the "i forget password" button (or the "For Porn Here" button)and it will send to that email. On K9 set the custom to "Porn", "Nudity" and "Suspicious" or "Extreme" (that's what I did you can add more) then save. Test it on a porn site and what it block. Make sure the options to use password are off.

Once your computer is set to block porn, delete the email account. No way of knowing password, no getting cheat codes to bypass security.

Keep strong and remember the fallen!

  19. Thanks guys for the help. IGY I can't afford to get a "dumb phone" I asked my parents and they were like just go cold turkey and walk away from it. They encouraged me and that was it. Weren't willing to get me a dumb phone.

I'm just going to pray each and every time I'm tempted and Jesus will take care of it. I'm also going to sleep on this futon in my room that I would never fap on or anything.

Keep the advice coming guys. I'm sure that there are more out there that have a few words to say on the question.

    Thanks in advance

Thanks to all who posted on this post. God bless

You could probably sell your current smartphone on craigslist and get a dumbphone on craigslist or at Wal-Mart.
