    May we know what do you mean by "How to become a man?" ? My curiosity is tingling ;)

    Are you being bullied by your friends because they don't see you as a man?? Etc..

    Be as physically fit as your body allows you, be socially free(live alone,support yourself financially) , have a sense of style, and overall , act like a man. A man is as a man does. You need first to act like a man would act and then you become one. For me, some things make me feel like a man a lot more than others for example: Breaking my own records in weight lifting, sharing my knowledge with others and impressing them, being clean and looking good every time I go out, banging chicks, working and making money.

    Do not become a man. That is just propaganda. All through history the ones in power have lied to the children of the poor - about what being a man is.

    Being a man always means to sacrifice you life for the ones on power, without getting paid. This is chivalry and such bullshit. Sacrifice yourself for the good of strangers that spend their days thinking about how to manipulate you even more.

    Only an imbecile would want to become a man. Try to become: strong, intelligent, educated, strong willed, achieve stuff - and so on. But do not rely on what society lies to you about what being a man is. That is just stupid.

    "Courage, patience, discipline, as well as a hardened mind and body are part of being a man but love, care, and compassion are also vital attributes. Dont get bogged down in stereotypes and be true to yourself."

    courage = sacrifice yourself for those in power
    hardened mind = suffer a lot
    discipline = follow orders without wasting time to question them
    patience = working without pay

    These are bad traits, yet they get lumped up with some good traits.

  8. I was just about to start a thread on what people define as masculine and I saw this!

    Firstly I think many men aim for or idolise traits that are not the most important. Some are not bad things to have, some certainly are though.

    This is my list of most important traits

    Loving
    Kind
    Wise
    Rational
    Patient
    Selfless
    Good at prioritising
    Emotionally strong yet willing to share what's in their heart
    Hard working
    Determined
    Honourable, especially toward women
    Productive
    Loves Jesus!
    Takes care of his body

    Those are some that spring to mind.

    Check out "The way of Men" by Jack Donovan.

    Courage

    Was life changing for me. There's a chapter called "The bonobo masturbation society". It's particularly pertinent to this community as we're effectively all trying not to be like that.

  10. That is an essential part of being a man is it? Smh!

  11. If– Rudyard Kipling (1895)

    If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
    Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son.

    It's such a great post that it applies for a girl to becoming a woman, so I will apply it as well. Thanks a lot, your contributions are always wonderful

    That is exactly what I thought. None of these posts describes what a man is but simply what a moral and strong person is, no matter if man or woman.

    Do you guys really think those character traits are specifically for men? Because that is nonsense. So instead of trying to become a man, which you probably already are qua having a penis, try to live a moral life and do try to improve yourself and that is it.

  14. Absolutely. The OP was asking for how to become a man, so I told him that, but the advice applies just the same whether you're a guy, girl, or non-binary.

    I think it's more common that you'll find a guy asking for this advice, because for a long time in our early cultures it was normal for boys to go through some kind of initiation rituals and ceremonies, like being forced to live out in the wild for a week, or doing these sorts of things. Once the ritual/ceremony was complete, it was official, you were no longer a boy, but now a man. Now that we've lost those ceremonies, a lot of guys find themselves lost, waiting for that moment where they feel like a man, only to never seem to find it.

    You don't need any fancy rituals or ceremonies though to become a man, or to become a woman, you just need to learn to have values, direction and integrity. :)

    It's clear from the last couple of posts that the virtues of a man are applicable to woman as well.

    However the more useful question is what are the hallmarks or virtues of masculinity as opposed to femininity?

    Each person, whether man or woman, is going to have a blend of the masculine and feminine. However each individual will vary on the balance between the two. A man can have a lot masculine qualities and less feminine qualities and vice versa. Similarly a woman can have a lot of masculine qualities and less feminine qualities and vice versa.

    So the question becomes - How does one enhance their masculine self?

    There is a documentary on this subject I would urge everyone who has ever asked themselves this question to watch.

    It's called 'The Mask You live In.'

    Every time I watch it I am reduced to tears because of the amount of freedom it gives me in answer to the question of what it means to be a man.

    You know what I find annoying?

    I always thought one thing made a man above all else.

    Integrity.

    Wasn't on anyone's list.

    A man is only as good as his word.

    Doesn't really matter what the word is.
    It defines him.
    Because it's how his actions speak behind it and in front of it.
    And whether those words back up whatever is coming out.
    Forward backwards, whatever.
    Integrity.

    Actually, integrity was on a couple of lists. E.g. on JesusGreen's, and I, too, mentioned morals. So I do not see your point.

    Annoying was probably not the best language, in rereading.

    But alot of people don't think integrity is moral.
    And Jesusgreen had a great list.
    You too
    There were good lists, I wasn't saying there weren't... I was saying I was surprised nobody listed it at all.
    I think this is a problem.
    In today's societys nobody thinks of keeping their word first.
    If people stood by their words, everything else could fall easier into place.
