Is P without M harmful?

    Fair enough.

Psub=Porn Substitutes? Is there a definition of substitute, because a fully-clothed woman on TV, or magazine can be used as a substitute for some people (okay, me)... and I would still consider that addicting.

Apparently my imagination is on overdrive then, because even if there is no porn, my mind imagines something way beyond "physical sensation".

I guess it depends on the individual, and like everything in my life, I am an overachiever. Yay me! *rolls eyes*

I don't know what's exactly the definiton of a Psub around here. I think it's stuff like bikini pics and so on.

Yeah, for me too. That's actually what I started with as a teen. I didn't look at much porn videos. I had a high imagination and it was sometimes even more hot in some way. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't release that huge amounts of dopamine, even if the feeling is better. It's hard to describe. For example when I masturbated after a long streak just to fantasy it was a pretty 'natural' feeling. But when I relapsed to porn after a long streak, it was crazy. My body was shaking, heart going like crazy. It felt like something got injected into my body. I noticed what's going on in my body and what chemical inbalance is happening when watching porn. It was a real throwback moment when watching my first porn as a teen.

Yes that's also the case for me. And a few hours later I crave for something on a screen. That's why I stopped masturbation completely. Once tasted again and I'm craving the fast and easy way. The dark side of the force ;)

I think masturbation without porn is very bad mostly because your brain is wired to recall those porn images that arosed you before when you watched porn. I think is no difference betwin M with P and without P. Until you don't rewire your brain to diffrent kind of plesures take the challange to stop for a while. Try 1 week. Then 2 weeks. After that 1 month and so on. Good luck with your endeavour!

So what you're saying is I can masturbate as long as it's a p-substitute? Just kidding, although I personally don't need an image or a video. Erotica is enough for me, reading a story is usually better than any image/video.

Although often times I like an image to go along with the story... it's a never-ending vicious cycle. Grumbles...

Well, yes, of course I also was subjected to porn earlier than age 18. My father had a bookshelf full of pornographic literature that I read at age 12. But the process of acquiring porn was cumbersome, and slow. And both of us are examples of how you can get addicted later. But this only shows how dangerous porn is. So thinking it is less harmful if you just don't M and O to it is just wishful thinking. Those who realize they are addicted have to stop at once. Now. Preferably forever, but this is not a realistic scenario as relapses are so easy.

I urge anyone to read the yourbrainonporn site if not done so. Very informative.

I've read it and other sites like it, but I'm curious about their sources. They always say "studies show" and "surveys reports" but they never actually give any real scientific data. In fact, most of them reference each other in a never-ending circle-jerk. Kinda frustrating.

While most of it does sound factual and fits with my own experiences, I would like to see some of the data and research they mention so I can interpret it with my own logic.
