    Discipline helps a lot. But you are missunderstanding the definition of addiction. An addiction is something you have no control over therefore self-control is very hard and sometimes impossible to apply. What helps is building a better life , talk - therapy , trigger awareness , avoidance , information and accountability partners.

    Gotta disagree with "an addiction is something you have no control over". Once addiction sets in it becomes far more difficult for the addict to go against their addiction, but it always remains a conscious decision to give in to it.

    But yeah, all of those things (talking, therapy, trigger awareness, etc) will help pull yourself to a better place.
