    Hello everyone.
I am 32yo currently at day 12 not using porn and day 28 semen retention.

I absolutely can't sleep, I am going crazy, the ONLY thing that puts me to sleep is taking Zolpidem (benzo), everything else have been done already, nothing works.

Should I masturbate without porn? Maybe I would be able to sleep doing it. Any experienced brother could enlighten me here?

My goal was/is a full reboot, I am obviously addicted to porn and masturbation, would probably take more than 90 days for me, and sadly I am single with a "recent" broken heart.

But ALL can be endured, except the insomnia.

    Things I am doing:
    - Tiring my body (gym and yoga all week, also meditation everyday)
    - Psychoanalysis / Therapy every week (been doing for a long time now)
    - All types of herbal medicine, from chamomile to valerian root, nothing works
    - Melatonin
    - Bach florals

I really hate taking benzos, but it is starting to become unbearable, it is as if I sleep for around 5 minutes each night, it is ridiculous. Better to be addicted to masturbation than to Zolpidem, that is the conclusion I am starting to realize.

    All advices are appreciated.

You're just going to have to tough it out, all of the other options are merely short-term solutions or come with other issues.

I'm also pretty sure it's the no porn part that is causing the insomnia so MO without P probably won't do much to help anyway.

    handbandit and again like this.
  3. According to things I've read, there may be a couple factors at play here. First, you might want to get your Androgens checked with a blood test to make sure they're within normal range. Second, your body may be overproducing an anti-inflammatory hormone called Prostaglandin E2; among other things, this in excess seems to be able to cause or contribute to insomnia. Third, there are other hormones and neurotransmitters that are excitatory in nature and these too can be checked out with a test. You may be experiencing improper serotonin-melatonin transitions.

I'm not a doctor and nothing here is medical advice. If your insomnia persists or gets worse, talk to a competent doctor.

Hey man, how did you go? I'm not an expert at all, but seeking medical advice would be a great first step.

Last year I had insomnia, not as bad as you describe, and the doctor gave me melatonin tablets--which are normally for elderly people. They knocked me right out, and are not meant to be addictive at all. Both the pharmacist and the packaging said this. I only used them for a month because I needed a prescription to buy them, but I found zero problems sleeping when I ran out after that month. I say this because insomnia can be a common problem with quitting porn and masturbation and this will give you a bit more of a fighting chance without getting a different addiction. Any way check with your doctor and see what they say. Good luck!

    No masturbation.
    No bentos.

so you say you CAN’T sleep. Do you mean can’t sleep when you want to or can’t sleep at all? B/c we all eventually have to sleep and eventually fall asleep. So do you mean you’re not getting enough sleep?

you may need to adjust your pre-sleep routine. Are you using devices before bed? Watching TV? Are you on medication that are stimulants or can keep you awake? Caffeine 2-3 hours before bed? How’s your “sleep hygiene?” Quiet, cool room with a comfortable mattress?

I've tried that before, it never works. I just lay there awake and kicking myself for wasting the progress. There is something else keeping you awake, maybe something on your mind? Try breathing meditation. It slows your heart rate down and puts your mind in a state of letting thoughts go.

It is better to not be addicted to anything!

Maybe you are over-exerting yourself in the gym?

Are you watching TV or on your phone right before bed? That can mess up your sleep.

Is your room cool or is it warm? It is easier to fall asleep in a cool room.

And insomnia may just be a symptom of abstaining from PMO too, which is only temporary. However the way you wrote this post sounds like it is something you've been dealing with for a while?
