Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (/ˌrɒbɪˈnɛt ˈbaɪdən/; born November 20, 1942) is an American politician who served as the 47th vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Biden also represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, Biden is a candidate for president in the 2020 election.
Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and lived there for ten years before moving with his family to Delaware. He became a lawyer in 1969 and was elected to the New Castle County Council in 1970. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972, when he became the sixth-youngest senator in American history. Biden was re-elected six times and was the fourth most senior senator when he resigned to assume the vice presidency in 2009. Biden was a long-time member and former chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. He opposed the Gulf War in 1991, but advocated U.S. and NATO intervention in the Bosnian War in 1994 and 1995. He voted in favor of the resolution authorizing the Iraq War in 2002 but opposed the surge of U.S. troops in 2007. He has also served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dealing with issues related to drug policy, crime prevention, and civil liberties. Biden led the efforts to pass the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, and the Violence Against Women Act. He also chaired the Judiciary Committee during the contentious U.S. Supreme Court nominations of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas. Biden unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and in 2008.
Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality.
Trump was born and raised in the New York City borough of Queens, and received an economics degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He took charge of his family's real estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded it from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan. The company built or renovated skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. Trump later started various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. He managed the company until his 2017 inauguration. He co-authored several books, including The Art of the Deal. He owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television show, from 2003 to 2015. Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.1 billion.
Trump entered the 2016 presidential race as a Republican and defeated 16 other candidates in the primaries. Commentators described his political positions as populist, protectionist, and nationalist. He was elected in a surprise victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, although he lost the popular vote. He became the oldest first-term U.S. president,[c] and the first one without prior military or government service. His election and policies have sparked numerous protests. Trump has made many false or misleading statements during his campaign and presidency. The statements have been documented by fact-checkers, and the media have widely described the phenomenon as unprecedented in American politics. Many of his comments and actions have also been characterized as racially charged or racist.
During his presidency, Trump ordered a travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries, citing security concerns; after legal challenges, the Supreme Court upheld the policy's third revision. He enacted a tax-cut package for individuals and businesses, which also rescinded the individual health insurance mandate and allowed oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge. He appointed Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. In foreign policy, Trump has pursued an America First agenda, withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations, the Paris Agreement on climate change, and the Iran nuclear deal. He recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel; imposed import tariffs on various goods, triggering a trade war with China; and started negotiations with North Korea towards denuclearization. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump
Mr: Obama Clean, Articulate, Bright African-American wont get the nomination in my view. I wish he would though.
I will be able to vote for the first time in my life later this year. However, I'm not sure who to vote for, and I also do not know of any party that represents me. However, the Elephant/Donkey false dichotomy looks ridiculous to me and I wish there were more parties, in the way much of Europe has multiple parties.
Well I would kindly disagree. The American two-party system has been the envy of the world. its a little before your time but you may remember the Bush, Gore, Florida hanging chad debacle. For weeks no one knew who the next president would be even after all the people voted. There was no blood on the streets. That is truly American.
I'm not sure what blood has to do with it, but many other Europeans have had this election peace with multiple parties, except for a few nations today due to some Marxist/Leninist developments. You're probably joking though. Right?
I know we have LP, but it's small enough that the average person doesn't know about it, it isn't allowed a voice in the mainstream, and many of it's members are borderline insane (though some seem okay). There's also Green Party but they are plain crazy. The problem is that the MSM doesn't really let other parties get into the public attention. There is a clear motivation behind this. I'd like to see a Nationalist Party that isn't liberal and isn't fake nationalist, a truly independent party that is allowed a voice in the mainstream discourse.
(Update as I'm writing this.) Okay I just looked it up on Wikipedia and there are a ton of other parties? And people are just going to believe the two-party system is natural without any foreign influences? Well now I have a broader range to vote, hopefully.
LOL I love ben garrison. but I'm afraid of globalism. I just don't want to do anything the way they do it "overseas"
