30 days no porn and no P-subs! (I am working on M, but I know it's on the way out.)

At the end of a 15+ year struggle with PM, I was very discouraged. My struggle was mostly alone. Then I joined NoFap. I created the username chrysion, as I felt God gave me this verse for my struggle:

"I counsel you to buy from me gold [chrysion] refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see." Revelation 3:18

My job from then on was to "buy gold" from God. That is, refine myself through the painful fires of purging until all that is left is pure gold from God; then I would be truly "rich". I would be no longer naked and ashamed, but given "white garments" of purity. I would no longer blind myself to the truth, but be healed by the "salve" to anoint my eyes. Then I would be ready to serve God. This has always been the purpose of my life.

On December 10th, 2019 I posted my introduction:
Since then I have fought this thing fiercely, making some radical changes in my life. It's like the frustration of all those years being channeling into freedom. I implemented an internet whitelist (meaning I am only allowed to visit specific websites), I found an AP, I set strong boundaries around my problems, I started working out a lot and I changed my diet and I began listening to Porn-Free Radio every day.

I also started posting here every single day, starting multiple threads:

    Starting again (my journal)
Come here to be encouraged! (I need to encourage myself every day)
Remember the reasons! (I need to remember why I hated PM and what I'm going for)
Motivate me to be a real man (I want women to tell me what they think of "real men")

Speaking for myself, I am in desperate need of encouragement and motivation. I felt I was lacking this throughout my life, which either caused or worsened my PM addiction. So I took it upon myself to motivate myself every day, and in the process I uplifted others as well.

The first few days of PM sobriety were very difficult, but since then I have been quite separated from porn. However, after 16 days of no M, I gave in. Since then I have done M twice more. And it does little for me except provide depression. That's why I know it's going out the door.

The biggest benefit to really starting to gain success over PM is one I never expected:
So that's my first success story. I have much further to go. I must never do M. I have been sick for about a week, and this has upended my schedule, meaning it's hard to eat the right foods, work out, do my reading, etc. But I am determined. I'm getting right back on the program. I will stay focused and determined.

So that's it. But last night I thought of an analogy and I thought I would append it to this post:

In nature, many foods have some sugar, but most are not pure sugar. They also might have some carbs, some fiber, some vitamins, etc. You can eat these foods and not only be satisfied, but be nourished with no side effects. However, some people have decided to take these foods and unnaturally extract the sugar out of them. Then they sell you a bag of pure sugar. You start eating the pure sugar and it's way overstimulating. It's way too sweet. But who doesn't love sugar, right? So you keep eating the sugar until that is your baseline and all natural foods are bland. Now you are addicted to something which damages your body and you hate the foods which nourish your body.

So the analogy is obvious. The sugar is sex. In normal life, you go through puberty and you start noticing girls. You see one you like, and because there are standards in society and because women want someone to respect, you become a better man. Then you marry her and you start a family. Now you've gotten sexual satisfaction, plus you've improved yourself, improved society and upheld the honor of women. Everything "tastes" good and you have no regrets. But we are unnaturally connected through technology, and some people exploit this and offer you pure sugar - sex, only sex and nothing but sex. Big bags of pure sex. Sex all day and all night. It's horrifically unnatural. It's way too sweet. But who doesn't like sex, right? So we gorge on sex until normal relationships are bland. And in the process we ruin ourselves, because we never realize there is more to life than sugar.

Obviously the solution is to realize that having less sugar may be hard at first. "I love sugar so much, how can I live without it"? But then you realize how much you love everything else there is to eat, and the whole world opens up to you. And in the process of life, you get a healthy amount of sugar, mixed with everything else.

That was a great analogy and post overall. I'm so happy for you chrysion! You're an inspiration to us all!

I like the diet stuff. Why do we eat rice without the fibre ie white rice?

    Thanks!

It was mainly a helpful comparison, but I agree - we should eat more healthy foods.
