Hi all! Excited to join the community and to free myself of the shackles of my own urges.

I'm a 34 year old male and have been watching porn since I was 13. I started on a magazine that my uncle sneaked to me, graduated to VHS movies shortly afterward, and then to pic and video shares at LAN parties. I was already hooked even before the PornHubs and RedTubes came on the scene. It has been an ever escalating problem that I have always been ashamed of, and am finally ready to admit I have an issue and do something about it.

I have been with my wonderful wife for about 7 years and we have been married for 2 1/2. She has a 13 year old daughter who we are very proud of as well. To make sure that we have a full and healthy marriage and family life I want to make sure I go into the best years of our lives with as clean a slate as I can manage. I am a recovering alcoholic and have been sober for about 1 1/2 years, and quit smoking about 5 years ago after smoking for 12 years.

Any advice or words of encouragement anyone wants to share are more than welcome. I am committed to making a change. If I can quit booze and cigarettes, I can kick this too.

Thanks everyone for your support and for this great community!

Welcome to the forum bud! Thank you for sharing your story. You have been through a lot and have covered a lot of ground. Soon you will conquer this beast too.

Unfortunately, our life journey is very tough. We don't see the dangers that effect us slowly and in the long-term. The first drink, the first puff, the first wank, will never lead us to fear addiction. You must be proud that you at least realize that you are an addict. You have accepted this. We all are lucky to have this realization and agree that something needs to change.

I would recommend that you read this book "Addiction as an Attachment Disorder" by Dr. Joel Flores. He talks about cross-addictions. If you don't have the time to read or are not the reading type a summary is as follows: basically we humans are made for human interaction and the positive feelings from a healthy relationship help regulate our emotions. However, in the absence of this, loneliness and other insecurities creep in causing us to find other substances. The repeated abuse of these substances leads to addiction. So break the cycle by introducing more human connections that you will enjoy!

Good luck in your journey! I hope to see more of you on the forum.
