38 Year old with 20 year addiction

    I am 38 years old male. First time here.

    I'm a porn addict for more than 20 years now. Most of the time I dindn't even watch the porn, was just opening tabs all the time and watching highlights and edging the whole time.

    I work at home (alone) behind my computer, so it was really hard not to fap. Most of the time I wasn't even watching porn but my left hand was always on my dick. When I'm anxious or things get hard I do this even more.

    I'm now clean for more than 90 days porn and masturbation. But I'm still not feeling really ok. Could it take longer than 90 days if you are a long time addict like me?

    I also have really sore shoulders and back (especially my left shoulder, neck and even arm) hurt a lot. This is because of all the fapping and sitting in a crappy position behind my computer. Does anybody have experience with this? And does this pain go away at some point, or did I really screw up my tendons?

  2. Hey Blegh, 90 days! Congratulations man, that is quite an achievement!

    The strong urges must be under control by now. But to answer your question, it takes a long time to go from addicted to freedom. After the physical addiction is beaten (3-6 months I'd say) there is the mental stuff. I don't know about you but I had a lot of things 'just happening' in my life that I needed to get some understanding about and control over. It has been 3 years and I'm still in the process. But don't let this long recovery time get you down! After the initial detox, every month has been a better one. It is just a slow process. And maybe it isn't all about this addiction but just life itself .. you know .. things don't work out or you mess something up and you try again, or do something else. Ups and downs, just life. Keep trying and some day it works out in some unexpected way.

    Sore shoulders, neck and arm is probably from a poor working setup. Sitting for a long time is just killing for a human body, no fancy office chair can change that. I can recommend switching to a standing desk and a hard surface chair to discourage sitting and stimulate standing. You get used to the standing position quite quickly. I replaced my desk legs with longer ones and use a high workshop-style chair. I also switched from a mouse to a trackpad, and move and stretch a lot during work. All the pains are gone.
