I've been taking 5-htp...200 mg time release. It seems to make a very big difference in my mood. It's an OVC

I'm a bit worried about it making me give into cravings easier but I took it today and made it through almost unscathed (chased a link on Facebook and caught myself edging a bit). I stopped almost right away. I think it was more that I'm still on day 12 than the supplement.

Anyways wanted to get some thoughts and recommend it, but definitely do not ever take more than the recommended amount.

Hey man, firstly how long have you been taking 5HTP? Are you taking it to help recover from your addiction? What sorts of mood changes have you felt?

The point of taking supplements like this and St Johns Wort is that they're there to help you through the recovering and give you some extra natural chemicals to get through it. At the end of the day the executive decision to watch, edge or masturbate to porn is yours to make. Supplements will only hopefully give you the mood balance to make that decision in the best frame of mind.

But 5HTP from what I've heard should help with cravings too. Just be careful not to fall back into the addiction just out of habit rather than having physical cravings. That too is often missed.

Edit: just read that you do recommend it. Great to hear it seems to be working for you!

I've tried saint johns wart a little bit. 5-HTP ups your serotonin levels because it's what your body uses to make serotonin. It wasn't really for the addiction...it was because I deal with some depression and didn't want to be on an SSRI or anything more extreme. If you use it on an irregular basis (say every two or three days or cycle on and off of it for a week or two) it makes a huge difference. I've gone from being extremely low and depressed when I've waken up to being very happy and content with life after taking it. Serotonin plays some type of role in sexual activity I think though, and I'm still not quite sure if it increases 'hornyness' or if it makes you a little carefree (as in, 'eh once won't hurt'). I'm a 110% committed to quitting now though so I'm comfortable taking it and not worrying about relapsing.
