I am new here and I have no idea if there are many Chinese here. I guess there are not. I am 16 and am a high school student studying international curriculum in China. Before I was in another forum which shares the same topic with "NoFap". I failed many times, 3 times after 2 months' abstinence. I don't know if any of you are interested in my past experiences. Now I feel it necessary to give up masturbation as soon as possible. Come on, start it now!

By the way, hope you can tell me if my English looks like that of native speakers or not. I am going to take SAT :p

Started from Feb 10, 2015, I hope I can succeed! My first goal is 100 days. (I changed that so I can make the number of days equal to the percentage finished. Also it sounds simpler and cooler in Chinese "百日" instead of "三个月" )

    Feb.20, Day 10.

  2. Ni hao, China Boy! Congratulations on taking the challenge and it looks like you are already 12 days in and still strong! I'm new here too, just started.

You're English is very good. However I would advise you to watch out for definite and indefinite article placement. The definite article is "the" and the indefinite article is "a". You used both, but inconsistently. For example a native speaker would probably say "3 times after a 2 month abstinence" or "the SAT". And a native speaker would probably say "it is (or it's) necessary".

    Good luck and stay strong!

Thanks! It's an amazing fact for me that a big portion of foreigners know some Chinese! I am very happy (actually patriotic though I seldom feel so). But from my past experience I have to say that in the very first days of NoFap it might seem easy. However, as time passes, if one does not stay alarm and becomes less determined, one might soon fail due to the overconfidence brought by rapid recovery. Keep on!

And thanks for your advice for my grammar! Actually the words and phrases I got wrong are those I have never used before, or not often. I am always not sure about if some are countable, some need "the" before seeing it really appears in the text. But I am very glad for your comment! I will keep on fighting and score 2300+ in the SAT! Haha!

Hi! I have a question that how do you show the progress bar? I am not quite sure about how to set a goal. Thanks!

  7. Yeah I tried to learn Mandarin in high school so I could get a chinese girlfriend, haha! It didn't work out, however, and all I know is how to say "what is your name?", "thanks" and random words like "airplane".

Thanks for the advice. I feel fine now, no flatlining or anything, but I don't expect that to continue. I'll definitely keep in mind not to be overconfident.

Go for it dude! Your English is understandable, and that's what counts. You have little grammatical mistakes here and there, but that's understandable when English is your second language. We usually say "never" for "always not" and just "if", not "about if", for example. But don't get discouraged! Your English is really good and if you just pay attention more to how native speakers write, like the people on this forum, then you will definitely improve! :D

By the way, how do you say your handle (I can't read Chinese worth a darn) and what does it mean?

Thank u for ur response! Sry now I am traveling outside and post this msg from a mobile phone.

I guess she would be very happy to hear you speak Chinese!

I think I am probably sensitive to grammatical mistakes when I am reading. I scored about 700 in writing without many practice, but when I am actually writing myself I can easily make mistakes, like the words are bumping out of my stream of conscience.

I understood everything you said but was not quite understand the last paragraph. ( I have no idea with most of the idioms) Are you asking how do I read Chinese, or my experience before? Or, how do I handle the 'lust'(I don't know a better word)?

I assume you had asked me the last question. By now I did not feel any pressure. You will never be able to imagine how Chinese forums deal with it. Lots of religious elements(Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism sometimes) get involved and brainwashing was overly used. Though they were extremely supportive, over time one might find what they have read from the forum contrasts greatly from the society. That doesn't accept any doubt or suspicion like an dictator.
As my logic gradually developed, I found its content not fascinating to me any more.
However, there is lots of knowledge I gained from that forum. I deeply realized the harm PMO brought. I saw tens of thousands of examples.

Now I am trying to develop a new method. By now I am still exploring. I think I should try to forget about it in my life, and do something constructive like exercising and studying.

    Day 11
Nice day! Felt tired after a day's walk in Singapore. Amazing city. I love it.
It was hot in Singapore. So hot that everybody wears shorts and skirts. I saw a lot, but that had not influence my mind. I would try to avoid even that in my future because it brings a possibility.
I got a lot of homework to do later, anyway, that is not part of today.

  10. Reading in a second language is always easier than writing. But just pay attention to how people on this forum write, and try to emulate them, and you will get better.

I am sorry about using idioms. By "handle" I meant your nofap avatar name 飞翔志愿者388. I was asking how you pronounce it, because I cannot read Chinese. Also, what does 飞翔志愿者388 mean?

People in the Chinese forums really tried to brainwash people? Now I know that porn is illegal in China, but that is going a bit too far. Though for me, personally, religious techniques have been helpful, maybe they aren't for everyone.

Sorry for the inconvenience. My handle is exactly the same one I used in the Chinese forum. It means that I am a follower and a volunteer to spread the ideas of a person "Feixiang". Sounds like "Pyramid Selling" or heresy, hah? Actually that person has a very strong motive to help every other people. He has written tens of thousands of words of his experiences. I use the name not because I like the way how he interprets NoFap whereby lots of assertions are arbitrary, but like his manner and his perseverance. I use the name to help me remember my past.

In my opinion Chinese netizens are in general less critical than those of Western countries due to traditional ideas and rigid educational systems. They tend to follow an authority, to believe everything. That, to some extent, helped many of them succeed actually. But I didn't. That's why I am here now.

  12. Well sometimes people need a bit of authority, for people to tell them what to do and how to get help. But you must make any advice your own, and of course, you have to make it work for yourself. Good luck in trying to create your own method. If you need any help, I'm available. Just PM me.

It should be day 13 I guess. I can't read the progress bar since I went back to China. Here internet sucks: only when it is now midnight can I log on to this website. Currently I can see everything on the forum but the progress bar....

I was very happy today because I had my first achievement: finished running 5km. That is, I know, really basic for runners. But for me it is my first experience and inspiring: I want to do more running in the future.

No desire occupies me today: My mind was focusing on something else. That's great. Stay strong.

  15. I haven't figured out how to get a progress bar yet, haha!

It's great you are doing so well!
