A couple ideas

    Hi guys and girls, I have a couple ideas I'd like to run by you:

    1) ISP porn filters.

    How great would it be to cut off temptation significantly at the source? I know there are plenty of porn-blocker apps, but the problem is that you have to worry about each device, and the user can always disable it. The UK has implemented a mandatory opt-in approach to porn and I think it would be fantastic to have something like that here. Even just the ability to call my ISP and say "please block porn from coming to my house" would be amazing. Otherwise it feels like letting water into your boat and constantly struggling to get it out and stay afloat. I know no filter could be complete or perfect, but a simple blacklist of the main sites would go a long way. Perhaps even the customer could provide the blacklist! I wish this were an option in North America. What do you think?

    2) NoFap teams.

    It's hard fighting this battle alone, and having an accountability partner is helpful, but I still struggle a lot. One thing that I thought could be helpful is the concept of being on a team in friendly competition. I play ultimate frisbee, and I find that I really push myself to the limit of my endurance when I play, and that got me thinking. Why am I able to play with such discipline and motivation in this setting, when I'm otherwise a pretty lazy and depressed person? It's because I don't want to let my team down. I don't want to be that guy who left an opposing player open to score a point. So I run like crazy and give it my absolute best for the team. If I was just running by myself for my own benefit, for the physical exercise, as noble as that would be, I would never push myself as hard as I do when I play on a team. Do you think it would be possible to apply this principle to NoFap?

    1) Most porn blockers, internet protection software, and even antivirus software suites have site Blacklists. Hell even the Privacy tab in Internet Options for Internet Explorer allows you to blacklist sites, or at least block cookies and stuff from them.

    If you invest some time and maybe $10-15 bucks you can set up a network of filters that is pretty tough to break through. Message me if you need help or some ideas for this.

    Only downfall is that yes, generally you have to install on each machine.

    2) No one said there couldn't be friendly team competitions. ;) If you organize it, I'd love to join one. Could be fun.

    1) Yes, I used to do those things. The bigger downfall in my opinion is the fact that, as computer administrator, I can always just turn these settings off. It's too much in my control. I'm much less likely to call up my ISP and ask a real person to enable porn for me, and even then there would probably be some delay in fulfilling the request and I wouldn't have the patience.
    I wonder if it's possible to configure a modem with a blacklist?

    2) I'm not great at organizing and haven't yet worked out the details of how it might work, but I'm glad you like the idea!
