A Scientific Discussion regarding the Pros and Cons of Rebooting (Respect required)

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Sir_Dave, Dec 17, 2016.

  1. Well in a general sense it falls under the "use it or lose it" assumption. And OP thinks this study shows an example of this pertaining to fertility... and I refute that.

A for instance hypothetical study that *would* be relevant to this would show a correlation between abstinence and reduced sperm count / health. If abstinence actually reduced your sperm in any way (and especially if it did not return after some stimulation) than that would be significant data point.

This study follow guys who have problems with sex unrelated to their sperm, and they can be identified because some of them have trouble masturbating, some even abstain, many of them have fertility issues. That's like say a bunch of guys with depression who make self deprecating comments tend to commit suicide, therefore self deprecating comments lead to suicide... anyway I did not read the whole article because I lost interest in it after reading the summary...

Very true, I agree with a lot of this if not all of it on to some degree. But in the end to each his own I guess, who's to tell you something is wrong if it's working for you. Cheers m8

    Hi guys,

I don't usually post on forums but this discussion grabbed my attention because I study psychology.

From what's been said, it's clear that the jury is out on whether abstaining from masturbation for a long period of time is biologically healthy. However, I think when you look at the benefits people post about abstaining, the main ones appear to be social (e.g. Reduced social anxiety, more likely to approach people in public). Therefore, while dopamine reward pathways are definitely the driving force behind pmo addiction, maybe it's better to focus on the social rather than biological effects when analysing the benefits.
