If I may ask, how do I differentiate difficulty in focusing on different subject caused by PMO addiction and one that is caused by undiagnosed ADHD ? (or if anyone here has ADHD and PMO addiction, would you mind sharing your story. You could hit me up through messaging if you don't feel comfortable with sharing your story in public)

Interesting question. Why do you think you have ADHD?

Its just that it seems that I have a difficult time with staying focused when it comes to studying and I fidget like all the time. Simply put, I can't just sit and stay still for minutes without changing my position or fidgeting. So I'm rather confused wether it's just placebo or an actual symptom of ADHD.

Also even if I have one it's not the type where it affects me significantly, in a sense that I can still act and interact normally with people.

Don’t be too quick to diagnose yourself, my brother! If you focus too much on it, you may associate and believe it’s ADHD each time you have trouble focusing.

PMO destroys your ability to focus. Look into your other habits as well, are you watching a lot of TV/YouTube? Spending a lot of time on social media, gaming the internet in general?

I had issues with focus and concentration at the end, before I pulled the plug. It got worse when I first started, for at least 2 months.

Download headspace, practice daily meditation. It’s helped me tremendously, with a wide variety of issues including my focus. Start with the quick sessions, 3 - 5 mins. And gradually build up. This paired with nofap will be your cure, just make sure you’re not abusing of what I mentioned above.

If after 3 months you see no improvement, then have a chat with your doctor.

I’m at 108 days free of porn and YouTube. I only watch TV 2 hours a week, no more. I strongly believe, our brains just need to recover my bro.

I hope this was helpful, I wish you well on your path to recovery!

  7. The default state of the modern mind is neurosis and distraction. Some say medicine is the way to go. Others say life style changes. Still others say its all about diet. Most of us mix and match. My money is on diet and lifestyle.

I have ADHD, so I can maybe help a bit. There are studies that link ADHD to addiction. ADHD sufferers are more likely to suffer addictions also. So porn addiction itself might be a symptom of ADHD. On the other hand, there are other things that can give rise to ADHD-like symptoms on a short-term basis -- fatigue, stress, etc. It's true, you might just be suffering from porn distraction.

    Some facts: https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/adhd/what-is-adhd

There is some argument over the specific symptoms included in the DSM's definition -- whether they should be there or whether others should be included. But it's a good place to start.

Note that the diagnosis is to be made on a longer-term basis -- symptoms you've had for 6 months or longer. If what you're experiencing is new, then it's probably not ADHD.

In any case, a self-diagnosis is tricky. If you really have a concern, it would be a good idea to consult a professional. And the bonus is that ADHD is very manageable once diagnosed -- through medication and/or learning coping strategies (like organization, planning, physical activity, etc.)

That was very insightful, appreciate it bro.

  10. I am undiagnosed ADHD (I chose this to avoid facing the reality of being stuck on medication). However, I have managed to improve my focus on studies 70% after I left the PMO. I feel more willing to read, finish reading that I started, etc. Just yesterday, after 3 days, I finished reading a book I have had since 2018. I always postponed reading that book because I thought I already knew everything it contained, just because I read its last chapter. I have a terrible reading addiction to always start reading a book and, being discouraged, skip to the last chapter and pretend to finish it all. SR has made me more focused and willing to read page by page, step by step, because my anxiety has dropped too much after this practice.

  11. Sometimes it's just your dopamine receptors that are saturated. ADHD goes far beyond these symptoms that you have. I believe that if you do a dopamine fast 90% of this symptom will disappear.

  12. Some basic symptoms of ADHD are: Difficulty in geographic location (the person passes a location a thousand times and always has to re-study the map each time); procrastination; alternation of mood; moderate depression on certain days (especially if you have a task to do); shameful school history; being able to appear to be focused while the mind is in Narnia; not wanting to take care of physical appearance; low self esteem; ease of addiction to gambling, drugs or sex ... among other things.
