About Christians

A group for members of all religions, or no religion at all, to talk about religion

  1. I can agree with you on several points. I hate it to when someone casually, like a numb-minded simpleton, says "because the Bible says so." Believe me, there's plenty of Christians, those mostly with an intellectual bend, that hate it when one goes about, despite there being an irony to it, as Christians, be they super-star intellectuals or not, follow the Bible as a means of having a moral guideline.
However, I suggest to you that there is an in-depth approach to the moral compass of Christianity (and humanity too) that's deeply philosophical and spiritual. I recommend the Catholic Catechism, for it has a very in-depth approach on many things from theology to ethics/morality.
For example, here is what it says about "Pornography": Pornography consists in removing real and simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

we don't generally do this, as you yourself point out when you talk about our shaming and blaming. You don't like it when we hold the individual accountable either.

Can I ask you a question? What is it that keeps you from raping or murdering or stealing?

You are never obligated to be rude.

do you think You can overcome satan without God? Its only a cycle if you make it one. If you refuse to listen, of course we will keep telling you the same thing.

No. Better to learn before the sin. Thats why you are taught not to murder and steal etc, as opposed to learning what you did wrong in jail.

That is not the point of Genesis. No elaboration needed.

I think the main thing you have wrong is that when the bible tells us to, for instance, love thy neighbor, it does not mean disregard the moral laws offered in the bible and tell the person he is sinless and does not need God. Being gay is detestable but we do not detest the gay man (go back and read my last post). Some have stolen, some have murdered, some have had gay sex, some are prostitutes. I'm a sinner myself as is everybody else. They all need forgiveness and we are not being hateful by telling them so.

Your conclusion is off. See above. You obviously don't know the bible very well because you keep asserting falsities about it.

Christianity is not dying, its actually growing. Look it up if necessary. Christianity is here to stay, and strength of religion is not measured it quantity anyway.

Forgive me if this response is slightly disjointed. I'll watch the video later when I have more time
