Abstinence and possible risks

Discussion in 'Abstinence, Retention, and Sexual Transmutation' started by Deleted Account, May 23, 2019.

  1. Are there some risks related to the abstinence ? For example some possible problem for the prostate ?

And what about "wet dreams" ? Did someone have them during the no PMO period ?

I have a thread on the prostate stuff: Ejaculation Frequency and Risk of Prostate Cancer

It is a difficult thing to talk sensibly about on these forums because people hold fanatical ideas about masturbation and semen retention, but I think yes, there is a risk, or at least there is some evidence (as yet inconclusive) of a risk. It is inconclusive though, and the risk seems slight. Talk to your doctor if you are worried. How long were you planning to reboot for, and which mode?

(N.B. Loads of people here report wet dreams, though I have not had one. They do not count as a relapse.)

  4. Thanks for the answer.
I am planning a rebooting of 90 days. For the moment I am in the no PMO mode, but I do not exclude to have sex with my wife, if it happens (for several reasons are we are not having sex often right now). I am not so worried for this period, since 90 days is long to recover from an addiction but it is not so long to produce problems (I hope). However I have no idea how to continue after the rebooting (what is the best strategy ?) :)

I went for PM, not PMO, i.e. I continued having sex with my wife. I would aim at a much longer reboot, but review how you are feeling after 90, 180, 365, 500, 1000, ... days and you can decide if you want to go back to masturbation, especially if you can do it without porn-like fantasies. That's just my advice though, you'll need to think through what will work for you.

  6. My wife is informed that I am in chastity now and I would like to involve her also in the future. After the rebooting I was thinking to masturbate (for example) 1 per week, only in case we do not have sex during that week and without using porn of course. In this way I would avoid to stay without orgasm for too long time, because this is what I am mostly worried about. But for now let us focus on the rebooting, since today it is only my 8/90. The way is still very long :)

  7. If there actually is any risk involved at all when it comes to the prostate or anything else really, it would be very minimal. Chances are, you probably are already more at risk from lots of different other things than you would ever be from this. It's very, very slight. And if you ask me, the benefits definitely outweigh any risks there might be. :)

As far as wet dreams go, yes people have reported having wet dreams while doing NoFap. That's because the body naturally expels old, unused semen. And actually, just with that probably went most of the "risk" you're referring to. And no, never is a wet dream considered a relapse because it's a naturally occurring thing, and it's out of your hands (no pun intended).

As others have said, the main goal here isn't to practice complete abstinence for the rest of your life. It's about the reboot, getting your brain to reset back to it's natural state after being overloaded by porn for so long. And after the reboot time that you've set is up, it's up to you to decide what you want to do. Just stay away from porn for good! It's what got us all in this mess to begin with.

Good luck to you on your NoFap journey! :)
