    Hi everyone,

Can anyone share any tips/ advice/ motivation/ success stories regarding alcohol use/ mis-use?

I'm not an alcoholic, as in, I'm not addicted to alcohol or dependent on alcohol (I don't wake up in the morning and crave a drink, for example) but my problem is that when I'm out in a bar and have a couple of beers, I can't stop myself and I just want more and more and more. I find it almost impossible to say "I'm just going out for 1 or 2 beers" and then stick to it - it always develops into a full blown drinking session, tonnes of beers, throwing back shots - utter destruction.

As far as I can tell, the fact that what I'm basically saying is "I've got no self control - any drinking always turns into a marathon" means that probably the only solution is just to not drink at all.... right? I'd love to enjoy alcohol in moderation - a glass of wine with dinner, a beer with a friend, etc - but I know in reality the only 2 ways I go are: stay at home and relax, or go out and get smashed.

    Thoughts?

I had my last drink 2 years ago. It's quite simple, you stop.

  3. just bring enough money for a few drinks and that's it, leave your credit card, extra money at home.

You say you are not an alcoholic, but you can't stop drinking once you start. That means you are an alcoholic. People who are not alcoholic's can stop without any issues.

My suggestion is to attend an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting. Google it and you will find plenty of meetings near you. The nice thing is you will get out of the house, do something productive, and it will help with stopping PMO. Once you learn the 12-steps you will be able to apply them to stopping drinking and stopping PMO. Good luck

There is a difference between being someone who abuses alcohol and someone who is dependent on alcohol. I know that I really enjoy drinking and a couple of drinks nearly always leads to many more drinks, however I don't need to drink in order to function. I don't crave alcohol when it is not available, I just go crazy when it is.

So in other words, I think I just need to accept that I'm an all or nothing sort of guy.

I like Yukon's suggestion of going out with a limited amount of cash and living the bank card at home - that way the only option is to have a couple of drinks and then leave the bar.

If you drink in order to relax then you should also adress the primary problem of finding a way to relax, in order to enable yourself to have fun, without having to take drugs.

    I'll let you know!

I've decided to set myself a slightly more realistic goal for now and then re-evaluate things in the future. So I'm going to say no more shots or hard liquor, but beer is OK.

My ultimate goal for the future is to be someone who can enjoy drinking responsibly and in moderation - not to be a non-drinker.

Ya, very simple. Easy? For some like you probably yes, for others HELL NO.

For me, I won't seek a drink unless I fap. Sounds kinda silly right? I have a few theories on why this is, none of which I will elaborate on, but as long as I don't fap, I won't have any cravings to drink

    you described me. thanks. :)

"it always develops into a full blown drinking session..." - this happened so many times in my life.

i stopped drinking alcohol 155 days ago. alcohol reinforces the horniness. nofap would be impossible for me with alcohol.

there is only one advice i can give you:
stop drinking alcohol for a period - maybe two or three months and look what is happening to you.

    That's hilarious.. :D
Many nights I experienced all three of my vices Porn or Sex, Alcohol and Cigarettes talk about dopamine overload I felt like crap for days. Once you conquer one area you will start to find it easier to change others. I can't indulge in alcohol for a while until I control my tobacco addiction, If I do I'm risking chain-smoking a whole pack in my inebriated state! Don't let alcohol control you!! It has taken many talented people and destroyed them because they had no self control!

  12. When you say you have no cravings, then try to NOT START at all.
Is that possible for you? Simply NO ALCOHOL. Never. Is that possible for you?

BTW, I am not drinking any alcohol since 15 years now. I had no problem, actualyl I even like the taste of a good wine, but I simply liek a clear mind, and I dislike to have a fogged mind.

I found a lot of peole around me who don not drink either. Just look for the right friends. And learn to say "NO"

I never had problems with alcohol, but in the same line of FreedomFlight, I started drinking almost close to 0 when I changed my group of friends. The time when I drinked the most? When I was in a rock band. :D

I think once christmas and new years have been and gone, the month of January is a good (and achievable) target for me. I'll be low on money anyway, and it's too cold to go out, which helps. So we'll take it from there.

I think the longest I've abstained from alcohol was about 20 days and I did feel pretty good about it at the time.

Do you think one month isn't long enough to really get it out your system/ adapt to a new way of thinking? Are you saying 2 or 3 months minimum to see/ feel/ notice any differences?

Depending on how much and long you drank for teaandbiscuits, there is no definitive time frame.

Within 2 to 3 months if you're not feeling great after having quit drinking you're doing something wrong lol, or else you were a sickly drunk who was physically dependent on alcohol and wreaked years of havoc on themselves drinking daily, then ya 2 to 3 months would be the bare minimum to start noticing significant differences I would say.

Sure. I have experience with this.

If when you honestly want to you find that you can't stay stopped, or you have little control over the amount you take once you start, you may have a problem. And you will likely not find a solution in the Nofap community. Alcoholics Anonymous seems to be what saves life for individuals with these delimmas.

i am drinking alcohol since i am 17 years old - i am 36 now. i think i am an alcoholic but not like an alcoholic who is drinking every day. a "lighter-alcoholic" who drinks 3 or 4 times in a month. i think this kind of drinking is underestimated. i want to see what happens when i stop drinking for a longer period. in my opinion one month is too short. i will try to be sober for 6 months.

drugs, alcohol, hookers, gambling and porn - all this bad habits are working collateral. so i must stop drinking when i want to be successful in the nofap challenge. alcohol is the factor which overrides all inhibitions. i dont know how many times it forced me to do things which i would not do with a clear mind. :)

i dont need much to get drunk - 6 or 7 beer is enough nowadays. when i was 20 years old i could drink like a horse. with cocaine i was able to drink a whole bottle whiskey and drive car like a maniac afterwards. damn - i had luck i did not kill someone in the traffic!

i cant drink short drinks any more. i cant handle them. :(
