Enjoyed the movie, but not as good as other Marvel flicks. Felt to much like Star Wars and Game of Thrones had a kid. Liked all the characters but nothing groundbreaking I thought.
People seem to forget about the Blade movies, which I see as the real first great leap for black super hero movies. Long before Black Panther there was Blade and I think Blade holds up far better than Black Panther will in fifteen years.
I am sure people hate me now.

Before seeing the movie, I didn’t know much about Black Panther; he’s not really a mainstream superhero like Superman or Spider-Man, after all. However, I did think the main character was pretty cool; badass looking suit, and the absorption and release of kinetic energy is something neat that you don’t see much of. The other characters were pretty cool too and there was some enjoyable humor in there.

The thing that I wasn’t too crazy about was Wakanda. Whereas real ancient people all across the world started out working weaker metals (copper and bronze) and progressed towards stronger metals (iron and steel), the ancient people who founded Wakanda somehow leaped ahead to vibramium, the strongest metal on Earth. Another problem I have with Wakanda is how there’s really no explanation of how working vibramium leads to futuristic, almost alien technology in the present day, which is especially confounding when you consider that Wakanda is an isolationist nation. When you look at real history, isolationist nations have come up with some clever stuff, but when they’ve refused to open themselves up to the rest of the world, they’ve eventually fallen behind. Wakanda somehow stayed ahead of the rest of the world, which is ridiculous. Wakanda does eventually end its isolationism by the end of the movie, but to think that for centuries it had all that advanced technology it could’ve shared with the rest of the world instead of hording it just makes Wakanda look bad I think.

This was a major beef with the film, vibranium was like some super magical something or other. What the hell. They should have cut back on the sci-fi, gone a little more low tech and the movie would have been better.

And before Blade there was Spawn. Heck, one of my fav cartoons as a kid was Bravestarr - a Native American that called on his powers such as 'strength of the bear'.

The SJWs are ridiculous and set us back with their racism against whites.

I believe it's because some people gave it bad reviews and cried racism.

The overwhelming majority of films are still largely filled with white people. Black Panther is about a black hero from Africa, where he lives like 99% of the time, similar to how Iron Man is about a white hero from the United States, where he lives most of the time. The background of the main character and where the plot takes him or her will naturally determine the demographics of the characters in the movie. It’s one thing if the filmmakers ignore the demographics of the location(s) where a film is set, but if the film pretty accurately reflects the real demographics, then I don’t really see a problem. Also, a quick Google search will tell you that in the comic books, which the movies are based on, Black Panther is no stranger to the Avengers. In other words, Black Panther wasn’t added to the Marvel cinematic universe just for the sake of diversity.

I agree these ideas were not explained. I think they should have conveyed how Wakanda become so wealthy. They aren't selling vibramium or their technology so where is the money coming from? How are they able to purchase materials and such? How are they able to finance all the things that they do (like missions)?

It’s a movie, not a documentary. They don’t need to explain everything.

  20. The first Blade movie was the shit. Wesley Snipes doing what he does best. Trinity was pretty good. Didn’t care as much for the second.

But I agree—first black superhero movie.
