So I've been on this site for a little over a year now, I definitely haven't stayed very consistent with being on this site or with participating as much as I should be. But over that year I've definitely decreased my porn consumption, but not masturbation. I went from pmo'ing at least 3 to 6 times a week, sometimes even more. But for the past 3 or 4 months I've maybe actually watched porn a couple times. I still masturbate but with no porn usage, I honestly dont even have an urge to watch it. I'm not dumb and I know I'll probably relapse eventually, but would you consider just being addicted to masturbation compared to pmo'ing progress?

Quitting porn is a good thing but quitting masturbation is life changer. That's when your true potential is revealed.

  3. I was masturbating from a really young age, well before I even knew about porn. What a deadly combo!
So, yeah, for me, it has been a bigger struggle to quit porn than to quit masturbating. I quite agree with the above comment, but I have a long way to go. Keep up your effort!

For me masturbation is a problem on it's own for a variety of reasons, some of which may apply to you.

    1. I use it to escape painful or uncomfortable feelings or situations.
    2. I use pornographic fantasy while masturbating.
    3. I find that I need to escalate things in order to get excited
    4. It's a slipper slope back to porn or other undesirable activities.
    5. It's not healthy to be orgasming every day - for many reasons.
    6. It changes how I view/interact with women including my wife.

Many of us need to give up M for good in order to be free from this addiction.

  5. Hi
Hi Bluespace, any reduction in PMO must be welcomed. However if you can masturbate without at least thinking of porn then you are unusual.
An addiction is an addiction! It must be viewed as undesirable. This is my opinion anyway. If you persist in masturbating then sooner or later you will require porn to ejaculate.
Therefore my answer to your question is no. Masturbating without porn is not progress! Take care and keep engaged with your friends in NoFap.

Ya I was afraid of that being the case. I have reduced my pmo consumption but I'm not healed yet. I just got tired of failing and resetting my counter all the time, I thought "what if i just dont watch p but masterbate instead". Idk I'm just tired of this shit ruining my life, I'm not sure what to do at this point.

  7. I have two pieces of advice which I hope you will consider:
    1. It might be a good idea to forget the counter for now. Focus on getting through hour by hour, day by day. I am starting to think that some guys get more upset about resetting their counter than getting to the root of their PMO. I am not saying that is you, but you get the idea.
    2. Keep a log that lists the details of when you masturbate. Include, date, time, where you were, what triggered you and maybe why, and what you could have done to prevent it. Reviewing my log allows me to better understand and anticipate where and when I will be most vulnerable. By understanding this, I am more ready to prevent it.
Thank you and all the best.
