ANSWERED - How long will my reboot take?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Mateo89, Oct 29, 2017.

  1. Welcome @Spiritualscorpio. :)

Reboot means: The process of restoring your brain to “factory defaults”, i.e. before it was damaged by porn/masturbation.

I very well do not fall under these said points. I have a wife and get involve in foreplays almost daily without actual intercourse. So you think the equation for 2months X per year PMO remains the same for me? If not, suggest the appox time otherwise.
P.S : i was in 2 yrs PMO with PIED effects currently and doing 6th day in rebooting. Please reply. Thanks

Having a significant other will positively benefit ur recovery. If youve only been exposed 2 years ur recovery shud also be greatly reduced as ur addiction is moderate at most. Couple months shud be enuf. Lastly if u are older and were not exposed to internet pornography during ur development years (18 and under) ur reboot shud also be benefited.

    Mateo,

Thanks for posting this video. It should maybe be "required reading" for everyone on this site. Tough pill to swallow, for sure, but how can we argue with this guy?

Ppl just dont wanna accept the truth. They dont wnna get their feelings hurt. They wanna believe in this delusion that for whatever reason their entitled to a faster recovery. There is a cost to everything that u have to own up to.

    Plain and simple.

Own it. Get started. Go as long as it takes u. Prepare for the worst.

  11. That video is totaly out of context, we dont have any idea od what he is talking about!

I dont think PMO addiction is something special. Its addiction. So we can compare it - to be on a safe side - to some of the most addictive substances.

I think if we pick heroin we on a safe side.

Thats counted in months not years. Sure, u can relapase in 2nd year, because once a addict always a addict. But that doesnt change shit.

Also. Tobacco. Ive smoked 20 years. Now after 3 months i feel almost free. Like 75%. In next 3 months (6total) I WILL be free and if I relapse, its will be by my idiocy but not by my addiction.

6 months will heal every addiction. I dont believe in this "years" theorem one single fucking bit.

But ofc, if u believe u will need 2-5 years, be my guest, it will become reality.

Why dont u take some time to actually research and get to the source of that context instead of making assumptions and whining about it. The entire video can be found on youtube and its an hour long and goes into full depth about porn and sex addiction.

Dr patrick carnes is the leading researcher and pioneer in regards to sex and porn addiction/ recovery in the world.

U can make whatever assumptions u want. Its not just subjective. Despite you feeling *free* doesnt negate the fact that there is still change happening in the body. In smoking the lungs continue to heal years after quitting depending on severity and this isnt noticed subjectively.
But studies were able to observe this.

Learn to accept facts, they exist for a reason and should at least be respected and prepared for. Or dont. Ull learn it the hard way.

  13. Stick you "facts" where ever u want, and your warning about "learning the hard way" is just as pathetic as your whole - i know it all - attitude you present here. Njoy your 5 year process if thats what u believe in.

Your logic is flawed, the fact that lungs or heart take years to heal doesnt mean anything in this case. Because here, we talk strictly brain. Its not the dick or lungs or whatever which is addicted! Dont be ridiculous man.

Ps: and that "Doc" in a video behaves like a clown, he is not some capacity to respect. You just believe without thinking critically. And u belueve in something which is detremental to the cause as well. What good lies in the adoption of idea of years of recovery? You just program lf to failure

Hey guys, I have some updates on my situation. I have been watching porn almost daily since 15. I'm now 32. So that's over 15 years of abuse to my brain. I was edging as well. I loved to do that. I quit porn 4 months ago (start of August). Went into flatline 2 weeks after quitting. Erections became impossible, or really weak. Not enough to have sex. Last week, I had sex. First time, only 5 mins (terrible sex). Second time, 10 mins - not long, it's about 1/2 the time I can normally do before I quit porn, but it was amazing in terms of quality for both me and my gf. I don't think this whole timeline of 2 months for every year is accurate. It wasn't the case for me anyway. I thought I would be a worst case scenario based on how long I was watching porn. I'm still not 100%, but I feel hopeful and I think each week I can notice further improvements - albeit very small, but they eventually add up.

first of all, there is a big difference between drugs that actually force the brain to permanently destroy dopamine receptors (and thus lengthen considerably the healing process with some permanent damage), and sex addiction which does no permanent and severe brain damage as far as science is concerned so far. so the healing is faster and more effective with sex addiction. yes, it can take time, depending on many many factors (if i'm heavily addicted for 2 months, will it still take 5 years for me? I don't think so. if I looked at porn at 25 vs 12 for the first time is it still 5 years? no variables at all in that guys calculator? is it like mandatory jail time for ANY crime? :) ).
Everyone will heal in their own pace, depends on all the variables and strength of will and mind. to take an "expert" opinion and lose hope facing a 5 year sentence is stupid.

~~The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. And is the only area where doctors cannot actually look at the organ itself for damage. This lies the danger of many addicts thinking they are less addicted than they are. Studies have Brain Scans showing that an addict whether behavioral or chemical shows significantly lacking function in the areas involved for decision making, leading them to be more irrational. Meaning the brain physiologically has changed, and altered from its original functioning due to an addiction stimulus. The brain actually becomes ILL just like any other organ, and we would derm that then as mental illness in needing treatment. Approached systematically.

The doctor behaves like a clown? Hes the founder of an international institute for leading addiction professionals. Got over 30 years in the field of treating sex/porn addiction. Helped thousands of people get better. Genuinely good person. Written over 20 books on the topic; one of which i read. Who are you? what counter evidence or claims are you providing? You sound like a 12 year old throwing a tantrum, wanting to be spoon fed the answers that suit your needs.

Know it all attitude? I back up my statements with studies, and observations from credited addiction professional regarding addiction. I'm sharing information that anyone whose serious about this addiction SHOULD look into. I don't just claim things without basis.

Here is one Timeline from a Rehabilitation Treatment Center for Addiction Abuse including Sex.
    TREATMENT STAGES
One expert in treating patients with compulsive sexual behaviors conducted a study that included nearly 1,000 people. He examined the steps these patients took in recovery and treatment and was able to outline the general stages and how long they lasted. Each person is unique, but he found that, in general, patients moved through these stages before being in recovery.

    1. The developing stage. This first stage can take up to two years. During this time, problems caused by the sex addiction grow. The patient begins to realize that she has a problem and may even reach out for help, but can’t commit. She might start therapy or go to group sessions, but drop out.
    1. The crisis stage. During this brief stage, one to three months long, the addict’s problems reach a crisis level. She makes a firm commitment to change after experiencing a crisis moment. This could be the diagnosis of a sexually transmitted disease, an arrest, attempting suicide or anything else that causes the addict to commit to change.
    1. The shock stage. For the next six to eight months, the addict has admitted to the problem but is in shock and disbelief. She feels angry and hopeless but ultimately relieved that she has finally admitted to having an addiction to sexual behaviors.
    1. The grief stage. In another six-month period, the sex addict goes through a type of grief. She feels terrible about the damage she has caused to herself and to others. She also grieves the loss of her addiction because she used it like a crutch for a long period of time. Finally, whatever she used her addiction to cover up begins to emerge. This is often some kind of early trauma.
    1. The repair stage. This serious period of healing from sex addiction and its underlying causes can last from one to three years. During this period, the addict gets intensive therapy, learns to take responsibility for her actions, deepens her relationships with her loved ones and learns to have a healthy relationship with sex.
    1. The growth stage. This final stage can last two years or more and is the final step in becoming completely healed from sex addiction. It is during this stage that the study found sex addicts truly began to enjoy life again and felt confident in having strong, healthy sexual relationships.
Also look into a site called Rebootnation.org - this is the second largest domain regarding Porn addiction awareness and support apart from NoFap. Gabe Deem, the founder, shares his story and timeline

    http://www.rebootnation.org/forum/index.php?topic=2956.0

Want to highlight one of his forum responses:

It took me 6 months to start feeling better and getting some sex drive and motivation back. To have successful sex it took 9 months, and to feel completely healed to where I could get an erection to my hands touch alone with no porn or fantasy, 15 months. - Gabe Deem

If you dont agree with what you see, then dont use it. But if your not going to contribute any of your own qualified material back into this thread to bring insight; you should probably not post anything.

Point is, its supposed to suck. I advise getting support if it is overwhelming Recovery from addiction can be very hard at time. If you prepare yourself for longterm, you will a high probability to success vs this 30 day nonsense ppl seem to be getting their heads around. Its all perspective. 2 years? Fck it you can do it. There is nothing you cannot achieve if you believe that you can.

If anyone wants to know about my reboot. Im hitting 10 months in, and basically would considered myself rebooted, just need a couple more months for the sex drive to be optimal. Feel free to PM me and Ill give you any insight your looking for.

Wish you all a successful recovery

So now it's 10 years or so... For EVERYONE, you know.. cause everyone is exactly the same and on the same timeline. I wonder what shock and disbelief I might have in exactly 2.5 years. April 2019 will certainly be interesting.

Brilliant post Mateo. Thank you for doing some real legwork here. I find it most helpful. The fact is, it's gonna suck. I am trying to learn how to "embrace the suck"..... I wish others who posted did a mere fraction of the study you have.

    Thanks again.
