Any tips to deal with agoraphobia?

Discussion in 'Loneliness' started by Deleted Account, Jun 8, 2018.

  1. Hello everyone!

I wonder whether anyone on this forum had or has condition called agoraphobia:
I know that the best way to teat it is to visit a specialist. But some people can't do this for different reason: lack of money, time or there may be no specialists at all. As for myself I'm currently passing my finals and have no spare time.

I know also that word "agoraphobia" has many meanings. Some people can't be in crowd places, but are OK with face-to-face conversations. Some people can't stand any form of socialising at all. I would like everyone with the similar experience to share they thoughts. I hope it would help anyone.

  2. Hello Mukul. So, what meaning does it have for you. What situations trigger this anxiety disorder in your case?

Until I read the box, I had not considered that it might apply to me. It resonated where it stated: "Situations where the person perceives the environment to be unsafe with no easy way to get away. These situations can include... public transport". I have huge issues with using buses for example. I am paranoid we are going to crash or topple over when going round sharp corners or on adverse camber. I also need to know where the nearest exit is and that I can get out quickly if I have to. Even so, I become very anxious that the other passengers will prevent me from getting off somehow.
I imagine it feels a bit like claustrophobia. I feel hemmed in and my breathing becomes irregular and I have had panic attacks when I cannot get off straight away. Fortunately, I have a car and I am very relaxed using that. Anyone relate?
