Anyone else get called "gay"?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Jul 26, 2017.

  1. After telling some of my friends that I'm quitting porn and masturbation I get called "gay" in an insulting way, I know it's just a joke but has anyone else get called "gay" by people when you tell them you're abstaining.

    Thanks :)

This is one of the instances where some men/teenagers have created the notion that watching porn=being a man.

I've actually had the opposite happen, I told a friend about NoFap (the idea of it, not this site specifically) a few months ago and they were very understanding of it, to the point that more recently they said that they were trying it too. I think on some subconscious level all men know what PMO does to them if they don't regulate it, anyone calling you gay for it is just in denial about it in my opinion.

"People are afraid of things they don't understand. They don't know how to relate. It threatens their security, their existence, their career, image." - Bill Laswell

They are in denial. No need to feel threatened or anything, people will resort to badmouthing if threatened. In this case it's about image, that guy is scared/proud/ignorant. Use that negativity as a way to grow, don't let it influence your reason for doing NoFap.

I offen hear guys cracking jokes about porn. Seems to be the majority who watches it today. I won't tell anyone about nofap. People will be offended and do stuff like call you gay, make jokes etc.

  6. Many people are indeed judgemental for many reasons.

But I mean.. You are in control what not many people have in control.

If someone asks me if I watch porn, I proudly say no.

Forgive me, but I am actually astonished to learn that people talk to their friends about viewing porn and masturbating. Is this common?

Maybe it's a generational thing. I'm 55, and there are only a few people I would confide in about something like that.

  8. Here in the UK we use insults as compliments sometimes. It's a really weird concept. With that, you can't really tell if they're being sarcastic or actually insulting or just joking. In this case then yeah it's in not understanding why I want to quit using porn.

  9. Thanks guys for your help, It's given me a better understanding why these things happen and I will grow from this and help other with this advice because I can't be the only one who has had this experience.

    Thanks again :)

  10. Like what was said before, you are in control of your life. They probably are not in that aspect. It is an immature response to someone really trying to improve himself. I would treat it as such. You have my respect for wanting to do this brother. Just let that kind of talk roll off you and move on.

  11. I have never had anyone call me gay when I have told them I am quitting masturbating to porn. That is bizarre Rhys. o_O The post from @templarvisonz ^ really sums things up the best in my opinion.

My friends are addicts and still watch P all the time. It's easier for them to call me gay and say "every guy watches p" than for them to quit.
