Whilst discussing NoFap with a friend who says she watches porn "at least once, almost every day" She asked me if I was addicted, to which I said I used to do the same. She said "It doesn't sound like you're addicted, that's normal isn't it?!"

So I figured I'd ask the good people of this forum: Is 30 minutes to 1 hour of porn a day, almost every day considered "addiction" ? I'd love to hear some thoughts.

It depends on if she is able to quit if she chooses to without any urges to go back. I tend to listen to music for hours in a day, but I can go without music without feeling physically compelled to go and play it. And for a more relevant example, there are plenty of people who drink every day but aren’t addicted. As of yet it’s impossible to tell if it’s an addiction, as some people are more naturally resilient to addiction than others.

BUT if said non-addicted alcohol person is drinking themselves blind drunk every night, simply for the fun of it and not out of compulsion, they may not be addicted, but the negative effects are still there. Same with porn. Right now, it doesn’t really matter if she’s addicted or not, just that she’s doing it an hour a day and doesn’t see it as a problem. The negative effects will still be there.

Regardless of whether she herself is addicted i doubt it is a healthy thing for anyone to be doing every single day.
it would depend a lot on her life her and understanding of where she stands with it. there are plenty of things to look at, emotional state, confidence, quality of life, satisfaction, ability to meet needs, cognition, energy, and of course the ability to stop.

Whether its an addiction or not isn't really relevant in my opinion, what matters is that porn is bad for you and ideally shouldn't be consumed at all. Now I'm not overly zealous about this, I think for some people it is possible to watch porn and it not effect them all that much, its more like how eating a cheeseburger every once in a while wont kill you but eating one every day would cause serious harm.

Addiction is one word. I don’t always like it because it is a word people can squabble about. But this behavior is definitely a habit. If you do something every day it is a habit. Whether it is a good habit depends on the nature of what you are doing. I think porn is bad. So the habit is definitely bad. If you can’t take or leave the habit then you are attached to it. Attachment to anything, even the good, is not good.

  6. I am not sure how porn usage affects female energy levels, but imagine what she could accomplish if she meditated, or exercised for that time instead

I'd say it's a really good indiciation that amount of time daily is an addiction. The big test is though, can you not do watch it daily?? Do you end up going back after a few days when you told yourself you wouldn't? If yes is the answer then yea, it's an addiction. I bet no one here started out at 30 min -1 hour. Certainly it's a big waste of time, but tell that to your brain who thinks it's getting the job done for real

It depends but even if it is not an addiction, watching porn so much still affects her. but that is what I think
