I am going to start this message with a generalization: many of us are on this NoFap journey due to easy, unhindered, access to P from a young age. I discovered P just before the internet became widely accessible through my dad's stash of magazines somewhere around the age of 10. There was no "Are you 18 years old" message that popped up when I stumbled across this lewd content, but in reality, would it have stopped me? No, because I have circumvented these barriers to access in the digital age with ease.

Now, to my point. I have not done any preliminary research in this area (the idea came to mind on my morning run today) but the thought of "Barriers to Access" seems pertinent to our struggle and the social/emotional well being of future generations. Is a "Must be 18 Years or Older" and a recaptcha checkbox effective at deterring youth viewers of P? If not, what can we do to assess the efficacy of these barriers and how might we as a society better address this issue?

If anyone has experience in this area, or relevant research I would be interested in reading.

Thank you and have a fun and PMO free weekend!

This is something that Rashida Jones touched on in an interview about her porn documentary. One of the things that makes porn so dangerous is that in most countries it's not regulated like alcohol or cigarettes, access to it is so easy.

I think instead of a "must be 18" popup I'd have a much stronger response to a message (much like the ones on the cigarette boxes) that says: "Excessive pornography use may lead to erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation".

Hows the rest of that documentary? Worth watching?

I watched some years ago before joining nofap, it did show what some porn actresses go through but I personally don't feel comfortable suggesting others here to watch it as it contains triggering material. There are sfw interviews with former porn stars that can give similar insights, I would suggest a couple but again I'm afraid mentioning their names may trigger some people.

Thanks I ended up watching it actually, I agree I'd say you need to carefully qualify depending on the stage of recovery and where you are mentally. If someone is easily triggered by imagery alone that's not a good idea, if that's not the case (which I understand could be a minority of people) it's probably a matter of people who are more addicted mentally and it can change ones thinking.
