beating urges by tapping into reality.

We tend to perceive the things around us through our senses and intellect and therefore, tend to create our own reality or an interpretation of reality.
And that is why we suffer in our own self made cages.
Reality is reality. It doesn't need no explanation. It's what's going on all around you.
After reading all that hippie stuff, you're probably wondering how this is going to help you beat urges.
So this is how I do it:
Suppose I'm sitting on the sofa and I get hit with crazy uncomfortable urges.
What I do is I start becoming aware of the place where I'm sitting and my weight on the sofa and my being.
I start becoming aware of my surroundings and also my urges. Everything in a non judgemental way. I hear sounds in a non judgemental way and I just notice the place of silence from where they come.
I see in a non judgemental, silent and meditative fashion at the objects and their presence in the room. The stillness they have and space they occupy in this vast space called a room.
I breathe quietly and deeply and anchor myself into the reality and this gives me strength because the present moment and its stillness gives me the realization that things aren't really going bad at all and its all one happening.
This is how I derive my strength.
And urges no longer seem a problem.
It's as though I'm standing on a peak and noticing the urges that seem ridiculous doing whatever they temporarily do in the valley below.
If you think if I'm full of shit, let me know.

Therefore I beat my urges by not even beating them. No conflict. Im full of acceptance of its presence and I stay with it.

I remember Deepak Chopra calling this nonjudgmental observation "The Silent Witness." The more popular term nowadays may be Mindfulness. It's 100% valid. It's how I've gotten out of a lot of unpleasant daydreams where I found myself locked into some negative drama in my head. I like how you seemed to have come to this understanding by yourself. I admire that.

Congratulations on 49 days, Z_the_B! Keep tapping into reality!

In a way yes. I also say that you need to be aware of the urges too in the same non judgemental way and stay with it with full acceptance

Yes I've heard of Deepak Chopra.
I didn't come upon this by myself.
It had a lot to do with great teachers like Eckhart Tolle, Alan Watts, etc. :)
I m really into this reality thing its so addicting and well, real! Haha!

I find labeling can be helpful as well. I did this many years ago for anger, and it works pretty well. Once your conscious mind actually notices that your subconscious is angry.. And you label it as such... It tends to fade. It's almost like you catch your subconscious trying to take over

So I have been doing a bit of labeling for urges and lust. So when an urge comes up, I practice saying "urge".....Or "lust". And I often mix it with an intentional smile.... which also helps to break the feeling of lust

So when an urge comes up (lol) you practice saying "lust" and mix it with an intentional smile? That is as creepy as fuck!

Another technique I have used sometimes to tap into reality is to switch to 3rd person perspective

When you think of yourself pmoing...... think of it like you just walked into the room and caught yourself laying there. Picture it like you were watching someone else... Almost like an out-of-body experience

The thread still had an impact on someone because they reported it. It is still visible to everyone. Also, the comments were made today.

Actually it doesn't matter who reported it. To answer your question though neither of those users did.

What matters is that the comment was fine until the last part. The OP stated that disagreeing with them was welcome. The rest is disrespectful.
