Beginnings..

Hello everyone

I am a 28 year old male. I am a medical student thriving to become a doctor.
I came across Nofap via YouTube. I was a little skeptical at first about the whole idea of abstinence from PMO (hope I am using this term rite). But then it got me thinking. I have no idea when I started watching porn and masturbating, it has been part of my life since high school. There have been days where i would spend hours watching porn and masturbate and then repeat the cycle sometimes to end up doing it fir the whole day. I am an average student, being a medical student most of my time should be dedicated to studying and I now wonder that instead of doing PMO if i would have focused on education I would have been at a higher level. Thus the primary reason of starting this is to save time and to dedicate time towards studying.

That being said I did some research and it made sense medically and pushed me to join(this might serve as a motivation to you all). Watching porn is a form of instant gratification. Drugs, alcohol, porn can all considered as instant gratification. Everytime we PMO, drink or do drugs there is a release of Dopamine in our brains. More cycles of dopamine release leads to decreased levels of dopamine in brain and eventually we lose the effects of dopamine in our brain. Dopamine has many positive functions in brain. It helps up concentrate, stay motivated, feel happy and many more. Thus if we lose dopamines effect in brain then we lose all of these good effects. Thus my goal is to maintain abstinence from PMO so I can stay focused and motivated.

I love to start new things which works to improve my life like meditation, exercise, not drinking alcohol. I make resolutions and initially do really well and then end up failing.. thus for me new beginnings are easy, exciting, adventurous but maintenance is difficult. Through this forum I seek help with the maintenance part. And maybe if I succeed at this then i would have confidence achieving other challenges.

Thank you for your support in advance

Here I go...

Thanks for your input!! Really appreciate it. Will definately check it out..

Just to help me get through I downloaded an app on my phone called "Stop adult website" which blocks all the adult sites from my phone..
To add an extra layer of protection.. i asked some one else to set the password for me.. so when ever i need to unlock the site i need that person..
Hope it works for me when i feel like relapsing..

@Game4g - hope it works buddy - I'm betting it will.
I've found it markedly reduces the chances of relapsing when that 'animal urge' in me becomes too strong and takes the wheel - e.g. when I think "I just can't stop thinking of porn. I've tried my best but feeling bored/angry/sad/hopeless. Just one peek at something mild will make this feeling go away".
That app should act like a roadblock, not knowing the password means you can't easily have the roadblock removed. The easy gratification of P is no longer easy. And so the better part of you decides to take the wheel again. And you feel good :)

Nice job @Game4g ! 7 days is only the beginning of great things. Enjoy every day and celebrate the fact that you’ve put PMO in your past. We take care of each other here. I appreciate your support as well!

Yes, I should have finished already but I wasted my years because I didn't give a fuck about anything, it's like I lacked energy. I wish somebody taught me about this when I was a teenager

That sounds like a normal teenager/young man :) In all seriousness, 20s is a great time to start, we all face up to these demons at different times in our lives - usually the right time because you're not ready to battle this until you've accepted it's a problem.
One thing I'm starting to realise is that life isn't supposed to be easy - and that's ok! We become better, wiser people by overcoming our imperfections. Not by 'achieving' everything on an arbitrary list with ease or no set backs.
60 days is impressive well done!
