Hello everyone
I am a 28 year old male. I am a medical student thriving to become a doctor.
I came across Nofap via YouTube. I was a little skeptical at first about the whole idea of abstinence from PMO (hope I am using this term rite). But then it got me thinking. I have no idea when I started watching porn and masturbating, it has been part of my life since high school. There have been days where i would spend hours watching porn and masturbate and then repeat the cycle sometimes to end up doing it fir the whole day. I am an average student, being a medical student most of my time should be dedicated to studying and I now wonder that instead of doing PMO if i would have focused on education I would have been at a higher level. Thus the primary reason of starting this is to save time and to dedicate time towards studying.
That being said I did some research and it made sense medically and pushed me to join(this might serve as a motivation to you all). Watching porn is a form of instant gratification. Drugs, alcohol, porn can all considered as instant gratification. Everytime we PMO, drink or do drugs there is a release of Dopamine in our brains. More cycles of dopamine release leads to decreased levels of dopamine in brain and eventually we lose the effects of dopamine in our brain. Dopamine has many positive functions in brain. It helps up concentrate, stay motivated, feel happy and many more. Thus if we lose dopamines effect in brain then we lose all of these good effects. Thus my goal is to maintain abstinence from PMO so I can stay focused and motivated.
I love to start new things which works to improve my life like meditation, exercise, not drinking alcohol. I make resolutions and initially do really well and then end up failing.. thus for me new beginnings are easy, exciting, adventurous but maintenance is difficult. Through this forum I seek help with the maintenance part. And maybe if I succeed at this then i would have confidence achieving other challenges.
Thank you for your support in advance
