I watched a vid on youtube explaining porn addiction and the guy mentioned chaser effect in animals who have distinct mating seasons and explained with this phrase: "getting it while getting is good". It got me thinking about how that can be applied to people, in evolutionary sense. I guess chaser effect helps with couples having multiple copulation increasing fertilization chances. I thought how it might even work in a communal mating "free for all" setting, like in some tribes who have fertility festivals. Humans dont have mating seasons though(that i am aware of) but it might be a remnant of our mammalian lineage? I dunno. Chaser effect is weird to me and to many people experience it to just be a fluke.

    Very interesting.

It may be a psychological phenomenon (i.e. a dopamine rush that we got last night from sex makes us want another one today), but I think that it does have an evolutionary biological service. I think you head the nail on the head, that multiple copulation increases fertilization chances during the fertility window. True, humans do not have a "mating season" per say, rather we have a monthly fertility window, all the more reason to "get it while the getting is good".

Interestingly enough, female menstrual/fertility cycles synchronize with time in close groups, making all of them horny at the same time during testosterone peak production. Add a bunch of guys in chaser effect after sex with their gf and you get one crazy jungle party ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

  4. My wife feels like having more sex with me after she has had sex with someone else. She says that sex makes one want to have more sex.

I get into a frenzy about having sex with my wife when I know there is also someone else she is having sex with.

Is any of this related to the chaser effect?

It definitely sounds like chaser effect. Physiologically there is no difference, her excitement might be caused by anything, being expressed with desire to have sex with you.

Your reaction is also interesting, increased desire to have sex with her. I wonder how much is that a learned behavior, and how much is innate, a natural response. Btw, kudos to you guys for making that arrangement work

I think that on her side, of course it is chaser effect.

Biologically, on your side, it may be a result of the Sperm Competition Effect, where subconsciously you try to beat the other man.

I hope that this arrangement actually makes both of you happy, as I cannot imagine that it would be healthy for long.

  7. Nah, it is pretty healthy. My wife and I were happy with each other before I agreed to her having lovers, and now we are almost glowing with happiness. Keeping such an arrangement requires good communication between the spouses, and that improves the relationship by miles. It is so sad to see that many people are just not able to communicate.
