Like the title says. Every day you succeed in abstaining from PMO, fantasizing and/or teasing yourself, you gain a new soldier in your army. The more days you are in, the better you feel about yourself and the more forgettable it would be to quit.
To go on a streak and relapse would be like building an equity of dollars, and then just squandering it all together.

I've been through some hard struggle during 6th and 10th day, but one of the thing what really kept me going was the fact that I was already that amount of days in and I didn't want to lose it. I didn't want to start from scratch.

Then I realized that I couldn't just go and tease myself. That no ejaculation and no porn weren't the major objectives. I needed to focus more on not immersing myself in arousal, I needed to constantly make a little mental effort to dismiss any triggers. I did just that and guess what. It gets easier. Easier and different, too.

I see that some folks have counters set to 90 days or even 365 days, yet they are 1 or 2 days in. Why make a 1% progress each day when you could make 15-20% progress?
On my first streak on 4th of December I set my counter to 30 days and I failed after 4 days.

On my current second and final streak that I plan to do long, long-term, I've firstly set my counter to 6 days. I made it and just made new counter for total of 13 days. Notice that when I started this extension, I've already completed my objective by half. Then I've extended it for another 7 days.

I know that the counter approach or attitude towards numbers of days doesn't define whether you'll succeed or not. You could actually ditch the counting and the counter, and you would still succeed if you figured out a way for yourself.

But I think this can help. Why make it hard for yourself, when you could view the numbers in a way that supports you?

And I digress. I think that if you're failing over and over again, you're just not committed enough. You didn't do what it takes to make the realization that you have to give it all up: porn, soft porn pictures, sexy stories, fantasies, your reactions to triggers. Give it all up for good. Ditch it once and never come back. And slap yourself on the face whenever you start to react on triggers or immersing yourself in arousal.

  2. Good idea with the counter, I do the same. Even though my goal is to reach infinite days, when I reach a goal, I just add one or two weeks more. I started with 3 weeks, then added 2 more, and I was already more than 50% complete. You're doing great, keep it up!

Thanks for the nod, M.D., I appreciate it. I think the PMO counters are like seeing how long we can hold our breaths. Everyone knows we cannot hold our breaths forever. BUT if porn is breathing, we have to hold our breaths forever. If porn is breathing, we have to learn to quit breathing. The thing is, porn is not breath, it is not sex, it is not real. So, quit breathing.

I agree with this - but I still love my counter a little...it's set at 30 days, but once I hit that I'll be moving it up to 45, then to 90, then probably to 200, etc.

My counter is me saying "Look how long I've stopped breathing for," rather than "Look how long I've held my breath!" I'm not going to breathe again, because I do not breathe anymore.

    I am quit. :)
