Confession is a blessing

For Fapstronauts of the Catholic Christian Faith

I was just reading from someone else's journal but didn't feel it was appropriate to post this reflection there, since I don't think the writer is Catholic. However, he was commenting about the feeling that follows a relapse that one might as well relapse a second time, or a third, and so on, because the streak is already broken.

It made me think about how blessed we are to have the sacrament of Confession. If we do fail, we can turn back to Jesus in the sacrament with contrition and a firm purpose of amendment, and we are back in a state of grace after receiving absolution. We don't have to stay in that place where we feel like we are already in a position of failure, so we might as well keep failing.

Of course, we should never commit a sin with the presumption that we can receive forgiveness afterward, but when we have fallen, we have a real, meaningful way to start over. We are truly blessed.

No kidding dude! I've noticed that the devil tries to get you to binge sin once he's gotten you and before confession. Confession is indeed a blessing and I am so grateful to God that I can go once a week or talk to a priest if it's urgent.

The big frustration in my life has been that the devil strikes really hard immediately after confession. Thankfully confession is laden with graces...

  3. This is an interesting post. I go to confession every 2-3 months and I always confess porn and masturbation. Even while I'm confessing it something is telling me that I'm going to be back in another couple months confessing the same thing and it's a bit discouraging but GOD's mercy always prevails.

I read a book by Father Gabriel Amorth, former Chief Exorcist, and he suggested that men who have habits of masturbation should see their confessor 2 or 3 times a day if need be because if he keeps confessing the same thing to the same confessor he will surely be set free of this nasty habit. I felt this was very peculiar.

Tryin' Hard, I completely understand where you are coming from. Satan is relentless on us men trying to escape the habit of lust. I am often intimidated by his invisible influence because I am a coward and it pains me to admit it but it's true. We must have faith that the LORD will expose us to no more than we can handle. The temptation will only become so difficult and we must have faith that it will drop off like a cliff.
