Could SSRI anti depressants massively help someone reboot?

I read that SSRI anti depressants basically shut off the certain dopamine receptors that are involved with sexual functioning, and this is why SSRI anti depressants can cause such severe sexual side effects, erectile dysfunction, and basically near impossible to ejaculate.

When you logically think about it could SSRI anti depressants not massively help with a reboot?

In a reboot your not wanting to activate those dopamine receptors, your wanting to give these dopamine receptors a complete rest for a long period of time. When you take SSRI anti depressants they massively dampen these dopamine receptors. So even if you do end up relapsing on PMO your dopamine receptors are still going to be massively dampened, they're not going to be anywhere near as activated or as high as if you relapsed when your not on an SSRI anti depressant. Plus you won't want to relapse as much, as you won't be as interested. Because like I said those dopamine receptors will be massively dampened.

I also feel like I need to go back on an SSRI again to help me with my mental health issues. I have been trying to battle it alone for a long time now and I am not getting any better.

What I was thinking was take an SSRI for half a year or year and then very slowly wean off it, halving and quartering doses for months.

My only worry though is my sex drive might come back with vengeance after I get off the SSRI, as I remember this happening before years ago when I stopped an SSRI, and what happened is I was binging on porn like crazy feeling this insane pleasure from it that I did not experience while being on the SSRI.

But back then I was unaware about the harms of PMO. Now I am aware of the harms.

Anyway whats your thoughts on this?

you don't want to shut off your libido you want to have a high libido so you can transmute it into achieving greatness in all areas of your life
read Napoleon hill's think and grow rich
turning off your sex drive on purpose would be a stupid idea on top of that you would be taking a drug without needing it and the side effects could change something in your brain, maybe negatively, don't do that

I can't say a SSRI is the right solution here. Surely you would have to speak to a professional who prescribes them and I doubt they would recommend a prescription just for quitting this.

  4. Your dopamine receptors need to heal so do not do anything that would mess with them, if you want something to help with stress, anxiety, or depression I recommend looking into adaptogens such as ashwagandha or holy basil, I recommend the brand plnt.

    Great idea with adaptogens.

Can't go wrong with the two Ayurvedic ones he recommended.

Coming in from a Chinese (Traditional Chinese Medicine) angle let me say He Shou Wu and Rehmannia (usually in a formula) just good for kidney energy which is directly correlated with sexual energy.

I could name more but this thread isn't for that?

Also gotta run or not following this rather, so best wishes in your journey!

I have tried a few adaptogens in the past. The last one I tried was holy basil and it done very little for me. I tried many other herbs and supplements, I tried other medications, I tried different talk therapies, I tried exposure therapy.

In the last 11 years I can pretty confidently say the only thing that helped my mental health issues were the SSRI anti depressants. But the SSRI anti depressants beyond helped me, they made my anxiety basically non existent, and my ocd was very low. The difference in my mental health on and off an SSRI is unbelievable.

It's just frustrating because literally nothing has helped me except SSRI anti depressants. But I also don't want sexual side effects from anti depressants.

I did read on YBOP though that people do successfully reboot on anti depressants. So I was somewhat hoping to kill two birds with one stone type of thing. Getting major relief from my mental health issues and getting over my porn addiction.

It's at the point now though with how bad my mental health is I am beginning to think that is even more important than successfully rebooting from porn addiction.

  7. The most effective adaptogen is ashwagandha, I noticed change instantly when I first took it, I even got a buzz from it.

I also face the same issues. Infact I am more worried I have to quit pmo and quit anti depressants as well. I always have back pain lower abdomen pain. I have general fatigue as well. Very poor sleep with the help of clonazepam. I m sick of my life. I m just 22 and facing these terrible signs of old-age. I want to be normal..

SSRIs are exceptionally good with OCD-related behaviours, so if that's a major struggle for you, then it can be worth continuing. After a while, as you have noticed, the blockage of the dopamine receptors create somewhat of a numb experience. This might lead people to do reckless things, just to get some "buzz" out of a "flat" life experience.

I wouldn't put to much trust into natural remedies, as they often have no double blind studies behind them that's not paid by the selling companies. Try if you feel you have the wallet and patience for it, but ALWAYS consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking them with prescription pills.

Lastly, there are great anti depressants that aren't quite so serotonergic and won't mess up your dopamine levels quite as much, such as mirtazapine, venlafaxine and Prozac (the last one still an SSRI but not as serotonergic as say, Zoloft).

Remember that certain diets and excercise routines are scientifically proven to combat depression (which most natural herbs aren't). Combined with the right antidepressant, this can be absolutely life changing.

Supplements like "New Chapter" with extra B complex vitamins may help; I take a 100 mg niacin with green teas and herbs, high quality essential oils on chakra points of the body may help too. If you want healthy testosterone levels, wisconsin ginseng is good, wild oat straw, etc. may help. Minerals if food form help.

Yes, it's the only actual way to get rid of a porn addiction.

  14. Hey bro I take lexapro and it has made my life significantly better. I was starting to lose hope but it was the best choice I ever made. Everyone’s different too. Talk to a medical professional rather than a bunch of strangers online about this matter. Most people don’t really know what OCD is either and as I said taking pills should be more of a last resort but it sounds like you’re better taking it than not. Just talk to a professional

  15. They could help but they could also fuck you up for quite a long time . They give ssri to sexual deviants , child molesters , rapists etc , and they give them to them for a reason, they can have long-term effects .

I wouldn't go down this route if I where you

I would look at all the natural and alternative supplements before using drugs. B complex is one specific but only use the best. Social activities, meditation, and exercise help a lot. More and more walking, breathing exercises out in the pure air from the bottom of your diaphram. No junk food, only whole foods, herbal teas, etc.. I'd seek a good local minister for regular prayer and interactions. The internet and squabbles ill affect mental health.

    I wouldn't recommend it.

Many SSRIs have strong side effects. Some directly affecting your level of attractiveness (weight gain).

I'd only take it as a last resort, for instance if you have suicidal thoughts.

They all have side effects. I have a sister who is now on kidney dialysis and in a nursing home due to the psych meds she was put on.

When I stopped taking my SSRIs I saw massive improvement in my flatline over the following few weeks, it was seriously hindering my progress. The exact night that I stopped taking them I got a wet dream. It’s a good question. I’d avoid taking them during reboot if you can.

Please be careful with recommending natural supplements too, since these are FAR less regulated than prescription ones. Green tea supplements, for example, are known to cause liver failure in certain people, which is deadly.

Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it's safe. Botulinum, curare, high levels of vitamin A and a fall from a cliff are all very organic, and they will kill you.

Meanwhile, a lot of synthetic prescription pills, taken in correct doses, saves millions of lives every year.
