So a few years ago I paid for professional sex addiction counseling. I stopped as it was very expensive and I wasn't able to quit. I'm thinking again about restarting it, has anyone else tried counseling for porn addiction? Did it help much? Any other thoughts?
My psych. just laughed at me when I told her I think porn addiction is one of my main issues in life. Why bother?
Drop her and find another, they should never laugh no matter how stupid your thoughts might be. A good one will do some research after your first session and figure out a plan to attack the problem, not make light of it. Unless you have history of being sexually abused or something I think it's a waste of money. You need to do some soul searching and decide if you are 100% committed to this no PMO idea or not. If you come back with a 100% dedication then remove any/all of the content in your life that is porn and links your mind to porn. I find when you go into something fully the result is almost always better in life. If it did nothing before then what are the odds of it doing something now?
That's not normal (assuming you mean a psychiatrist by "psych"). That was extremely unprofessional and inappropriate of them; I've seen psychiatrists myself and have many family members and close friends who have worked with them and I've never heard of anything like that. Like @zeekland said, a good doctor would never do that. As for OP's question- I haven't tried it, but I know a lot of people for whom professional counsel has been a huge help. The whole reason I even found NoFap was because my physician referred me to it. If you really think it would help you and it would be worth the money, I think it's worth a shot.
