102 days of kicking ass porn and masturbation free! I feel amazing. Stronger, more focused, healthier, and more confident. The combination of all of the success I am experiencing has created a healthier state-of-being than I have undergone in years.
I'd like to spend some time discussing how to create a life mission statement, and share mine with you all. Firstly, what is a life mission statement, and why is it important to create one?
A life mission statement, as I'm sure you have presumed, is a powerful and singular statement about the primary focus of your life. It is the main driving reason behind why you get out of bed in the morning. It is the foundational reasoning that supports your life's work. For many people, this is motivated by God or some higher being or "cosmic intelligence". Perhaps it is a desire to do good for others in the world or create something that has never been done before. Life Mission statements have particular elements that they need to contain that are universal. I would say they need to be 1.) Potent
2.) Personal/internally motivated 3.) Simple (summarized) 4.) Able to direct and create focus to every area of your life when viewed through the "lens" of that statement.
You may be seeing some similarity between a "why statement", and a "Life Mission Statement." And there are definitely similarities. A "why statement" is more universally known within the porn-abstinence community as the being the focused and singular "reason", or in some cases "reasons" why you are going to abstain from porn. I actually think a "why statement" can be important, and I have one myself which I've created and relates to porn abstinence. But I believe a "life mission statement" is the more important statement, and should actually supersede and perhaps eventually replace a why statement.
Here is my porn abstinence-related why statement; " I am moving on from having a confused mind, and choosing to be a lucid and critical thinker."
Here is my life mission statement; "To use my gifts of intelligence, writing, articulation, creativity, and humor to achieve my best life, and influence others to do the same."
I created the why statement by sitting down and writing out a list of cons that porn was causing in my life, and a list of pros that I would gain through abstinence. I then created my why statement based on what I wanted to achieve through my abstinence based effort, and focus on the goal resident within the statement. For me, the effects of a confused mind that porn was causing for me was keeping me from what was perhaps the most important thing I wanted to achieve; " a clear mind." Because having a clear mind means being able to achieve every important goal I have in my life. It is all originated from that place of thinking.
The life mission statement was created through a somewhat similar process. I wrote down a list of brainstormed ideas about what I want to achieve in life, and what my dream life would look like. I then worked backward from that dream life in the future and determined what the process would look like in the present in order for me to get there. And hence my life mission statement was born.
These two statements are important because they give us a specific destination to focus on, and subsequently move towards. In addition, though, every why statement and life mission statement needs practical steps in order to move toward those goals. This is the "plan" for achievement. We cannot achieve our "life mission" by simply envisioning or hoping it into existence. Just like we cannot go porn free without a specific plan.
I really believe that in particular, a life mission statement is an important key to not only achieving a porn free life but a successful life in general. If you have questions or comments about the process, or how this has been one of the key strategies to help me achieve 100+ days porn free then please do not hesitate to ask.
The life of freedom and success you have dreamed about and which seems impossible is absolutely possible! Porn addiction causes a really confusing and depressing state-of-mind, and one I have been all too familiar with. I know it seems "impossible" to ever achieve a state of freedom. But coming from a former addict who is living his dreams, please believe that it is absolutely possible and that you can do it with the "right" effort, the "right" goals, and the "right" focus.
