Day 1

Splinter124

New Fapstronaut
Tried this before unsuccessfully let’s hope this succeeds

Why I’m doing this; I can’t keep a long term relationship and have been searching the web for why came to the conclusion porn was the problem a while back.

The possible benefits blow the drawbacks out of the water

Drawbacks from porn I hope this remedies

Emotional numbness
Brain fog
Social retardation

Every time I’ve tried this I’ve failed all help and advise will benefit me greatly no matter how little!!

Advice tidbits:
  • Take things one day at a time. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. If you can make it one day without porn, what's two days? If you can make it two days, what's so bad about four? Focus on the present moment.
  • Be kind to yourself. Porn addicts are often ashamed of who they are, and some feel an incredible amount of guilt about their actions (I can see some of this shining through when you refer to yourself as socially retarded). Practice saying nice things about yourself rather than beating yourself up over the past.
  • Keep a journal, talk to a therapist, or talk with a friend or family member you trust (or all three!) about your experience with NoFap. It's really important not only to focus on your recovery, but to process what you're going through and to reflect on it.
  • Replace porn with a healthier activity. Don't just abstain and stare at a wall, gritting your teeth while you get through the urges. Get into running, cooking, playing a musical instrument, drawing, creative writing, programming, hiking, fishing, sports, chess, or anything that you're passionate about.
  • Understand that porn is only the tip of the iceberg. You watch porn for a reason. Here are some common reasons people watch porn: depression, loneliness, rejection, abuse, trauma, boredom, frustration, anger, exhaustion, feeling outcast, etc. Find out what your story is, and find a way to come to terms with it.
  • Meditation / prayer. I'm not a religious person, so for me, this is meditation. Meditation does not have to be a religious or spiritual activity. It is simply an opportunity to relax your body, to breathe openly and fully, and to let your mind wander for a bit. It is an activity that is a reward in and of itself. It's one of my favorite things to do nowadays.
Good luck! You've come to the right place!

I'm obviously at the beginning as you are. I've been doing a good bit of reading different things here and other places. I think Ridley is right about the reasons we watch porn. I have had depression, loneliness, rejection, trauma, boredom, frustration and anger. I would say all of these led to my addiction. I told my psychiatrist today that I think PMO has led me deeper into depression, anxiety and OCD. I KNOW this. I have a wonderful wife and 2 great kids. Yet, there's the old friend waiting to provide me comfort anytime I feel out of place, stressed, depressed or anxious. The process takes that away for the time that I'm engaged in it. Then, the despair is deeper than ever. My problems become compounded. It's a good reason to fight it. I think your instincts are right.

This guy hit it on the point if you really follow what he says , you would have success , for me i had some problems of getting pass 2 days and going back but his advice would help. Im one week now. Oh and if your about to watch the porn, practice saying no because you have free will your not under obligation. Its just 5 seconds of pleasure but having keeping your semen there are too much benefits to go back. I would recommend doing some research on pornography and see how much bad things its associated with. If you learn to hate it you would without a doubt conquer it . Read the bible that helped me to.
