I've been on this journey for about a month.
I'm at a point where I'm finding the fight against porn and lust really worthwhile and faorly manageable, as I'm enjoying most of the rest of life.

However, this week I have self-harmed fairly regularly. I have had smatterings this year, but it has ramped up this week. I've even tried new methods.

I spent most of today's sermon journalling about how the passage speaks into what's going on in my heart. That's another post for another day, but I had this realisation: the fact that I am harming means I am once again experiencing deep and painful emotions. And that is a good thing! Scary, but good.

Learning to sit on difficult emotions and manage them well is a really necessary task for life. But I now see that I haven't given my body the opportunity to do that because I've just gone ahead and looked at porn or dressed and masturbated to get those feelings to go away.

Doing so never actually solved the issue. But now there's no porn there's the old issue of self harm to battle with.

I'm considering adding a datestamp in my signature about my last harm date (yesterday). Not sure if that would be beneficial or might be triggering to some.

I think with this episode of harm it is a case of learning to work through logically how I'm feeling, why, and actually working out whether it's got any basis of truth or any actions I can take.

This journey is taking me deeper than I had dreamed or anticipated!

    Has anyone find similar?
Does anyone have good resources for new ways of managing emotions?

Check out the “transmutation of negative emotions “ on Scott Jeffrey’s website.

  3. I don't give them much though as they are just that emotions they come and go and I do my best not too look at them to deep and know they will pass good or bad. Focus on your path that's what matters. Possibly work on things to improve your mood like eating healthy exercising take a intrest in others meditating get some sun enjoy the sunrise and the sunset and just practice breathing. Your fine the way you are it's your thinking that you aren't that is getting away .
